    Job Description
    General Description:
    This position will assist Trade Tech with installations, minor maintenance. This position will assist with repairs of some electrical and carpentry to include drywall work on campus buildings.

    Duties and Tasks:
    • Assisting the Electrician in maintaining electrical equipment and systems, correcting problems, performing new electrical installations in compliance with National Electrical Code and all other requirements.
    • Assist other Trades Technicians with minor installations and maintenance duties on campus.
    • To include snow removal and any other duties as assigned by Facilities Manager.


    Essential Functions:
    • Perform minor maintenance work, assist with troubleshooting and repairs, support emergency operations.

    Special Assignments

    May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.



    KSA's/Required Qualifications
    Required KSAs:
    • Knowledge of principles and best practices of maintenance.
    • Ability to work in hot and cold weather for extended periods of time.
    • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
    • Ability to perform manual labor and to lift 75 pounds when needed
    • Ability to work at heights using ladders
    • Detail Oriented.
    • Strong mechanical and equipment skills.
    • Possesses critical thinking skills.
    • Possesses good physical strength.
    • Possesses good communication skills.
    • Team Player
    • Basic computer skills including Microsoft office suite.
    • Near-visual acuity, depth perception, field of vision, and color vision are required in order to make electrical connections, solder and splice electrical wiring.
    • Some knowledge of electrical theory, methods, practices, terminology, tools, and materials used in electrical maintenance
    • Some knowledge of NFPA 70 (NEC), NPFA 70E, NFPA 72 and OSHA
    • Knowledge of building systems and facilities maintenance.


    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Participated in a high school trades program
    • Valid Virginia driver’s license and good driving record.
    • Some basic computer experience including Microsoft office suite.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Graduation from a high school trades program
    • Experience performing building trades work.
    • Experience performing electrical work.
