A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A GENERAL EDUCATION TEACHER

As a General Education Teacher in human services, you're responsible for designing and implementing our classroom programs under the guidance of the school administrator or other designated staff. In collaboration with the special education teacher, you create a classroom environment that's both motivating and stimulating for students. You implement project-based learning experiences and opportunities through an approved curriculum that addresses the social, emotional, and academic needs of our students. Within 30 days of student admission, you also develop individual education plans (IEPs) and serve as a coordinator in IEP meetings.

Additionally, you maintain periodic progress scales for each student, attending case conferences throughout the school year at scheduled intervals. You implement a positive behavioral system as well as ensure that accurate attendance records are completed and submitted by the end of the school year. As needed, you create monthly reports and attend school- or agency-specific meetings. You also develop working relationships with assigned professionals and individuals responsible for therapeutic classroom activities.

In collaboration with the treatment team, you maintain a working knowledge of each child's diagnostic and treatment information. You participate in relevant meetings and workshops as well as help organize and supervise extracurricular activities. In a timely manner, you conduct evaluations for initial referrals from the school district and submit corresponding reports. QUALIFICATIONS FOR A GENERAL EDUCATION TEACHER

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Teacher certification OR enrolled in a master's degree program leading to certification
  • Ability to meet the minimum requirements of the appropriate state Board of Education
