Job Summary:
The Large Power Systems Division (LPSD) in Hodges, SC is looking for a Foundry Process and Quality Engineer to join the team. The incumbent will have the primary goal of supporting the Quality Management System within the assigned operational area, by providing expertise and advice on production or product problems fed back from both internal and external customers. The incumbent may also conduct investigations, analyze information, and facilitate teams dealing with issues/projects associated with resolution of quality problems.

What you will do (includes, but not limited to):

  • Manage the Process control and Quality Assurance in assigned areas: foundry process control, process specifications review, process audits, Quality improvement projects, technical support on defining final product control methods as NDT, defect analysis.
  • Collaborate with all employees to improve quality practices in their processes through quality manner such as daily coaching, tracking CQI (Continuous Quality Improvement) projects & Scorecard, providing quality support if any poor results or negative trends occur, developing IQC training programs, providing technical training courses to employees, conducting internal quality audits, facilitating management reviews, etc.
  • Manages the Idea Generation Process and Corrective and Preventive action processes by clarifying and verifying all ideas with related persons and spot check, explain the validation reasons, and encourage all employees to make contributions to achieve zero defect in operations.
  • Develops quality related control methodologies and systems such as Cost of Quality control for plant. Encourage the implementation of the established systems. Analyze and solve problems occurring during implementation.
  • Supports 5S/Lean Manufacturing/Class A and SAP and ongoing support, to help area owners set up goals and integrate 5S/Lean Manufacturing Practices with Internal Quality Certification system through standardization and documentation.
  • Carefully evaluate problems and review many possible solutions before selecting one option. Problems may be complex and can require the incumbent to develop solutions.
  • Support products reliability projects and customer satisfaction through support of the CPS (Caterpillar Production System), NPI (New Product Introduction) and CPI (Continuous Product Improvement) programs.

What you must have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Materials or Industrial Engineering and a minimum of 1 year of manufacturing or quality engineering experience
  • Foundry background (includes education or function foundry experience) with knowledge on key processes as melting and core making.
  • Understanding of Quality Management Systems
  • Knowledge on quality tools as 8D, PDCA, FMEA, flowchart and control plan
  • Be able to teach manufacturing/office employees about technical instructions and foundry processes.

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Master’s degree in an Engineering discipline
  • Deep knowledge on cast iron foundry process including no-bake molding.
  • 3+ years of manufacturing or quality engineering experience
  • Thorough knowledge of quality concepts including process control, analysis, and ISO9000 etc.
  • Previous experience working in a foundry
  • ASQ Certification is desired.
  • Knowledge on metallurgical lab equipment as microscopes, spectrometer, combustion analyzer (LECO), UTS, Hardness checker, etc.
  • Knowledge on Power-BI and M-Query
  • 6-Sigma Certification
  • Knowledge on development of gating systems cast iron products
  • Knowledge and understanding of MagmaSoft simulation reports
