Position Specifics
Under the immediate supervision of the Director of Dining Services, prepares a wide variety of foods, does general kitchen and cafeteria work, and performs other related duties as required.
Responsibilities of this position include:
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area according to supervisor's instructions and applicable health, safety, and food handling regulations
  • Wash, sanitize, and maintain food production equipment, service ware, and dishes as determined by the supervisor and the cleaning schedule
  • Maintain proper sanitation of the kitchen and dining room
  • Dispose of waste, including trash removal
  • Sort and put away utensils and dishes
  • Operate a variety of kitchen equipment, appliances, and utensils in a safe manner
  • Receive and distribute deliveries - receive, unpack, unwrap, rotate, & stow deliveries into appropriate refrigerators, freezers, and storerooms via supervisor’s instructions
  • Assist with transporting food to various locations on campus
  • Sweep and mop food service floors
  • Keep kitchen and serving area clean and stocked with essentials
  • Attend staff and professional development meetings as assigned
  • Must adhere to School protocols related to COVID-19 workplace safety and sanitation standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Required skills/qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Food Safety certification preferred
  • Experience in restaurant and/or food service preferred
  • Knowledge of basic methods of quality food service preparation; food preparation such as sandwiches, salads, and other food for cooking and consumption; sanitation and safety practices related to cooking and serving food; methods of cleaning and caring for kitchen equipment; proper handling of food products; health regulations; and safe working methods and procedures
  • Interpersonal skills using patience, tact, and courtesy
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; work around teenagers; handle situations with tact, patience, and courtesy; perform duties in support of food service activities; serve students and staff according to established procedures, maintain food service equipment in clean and sanitary condition; operate basic kitchen equipment, appliances, and utensils in a safe and efficient manner
  • Must be able to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
  • Can demonstrate proficient oral and written communication skills
  • Proper lifting techniques
  • Must have a valid drivers license
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Outside and inside food services facilities subject to changing temperatures exceeding 90 degrees at times
  • May be exposed to loud noises
  • Work in direct contact with the supervisor, co-workers, students, and other staff
  • May have changing priorities and interruptions
  • May work with moving equipment such as carts
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate with students, food service co-workers, supervisor, and other staff
  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment
  • Pulling and pushing food carts on a daily basis
  • Lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds - Lifting and moving food, food containers, and other non-food items from floor position to no higher than one’s own height
  • Clarity of vision at varying distances
