Fishing Department Manager - Who Are We Looking For?

We are looking for a driven, curious, kind, team-focused, and hard-working individual who will work within an elite team of outdoor enthusiasts. You will create the key objectives for the fishing department to assure that excellence is achieved and commitments are maintained. You will manage the sales team and work cross-functionally with operations, finance, marketing, and merchandising. This role will report directly to the Fly Fishing Director.

You are a leader who can manage the expansive high-volume fishing department’s customer-facing front of the house while contributing to the leadership teams’ strategic planning. The top candidate will have experience driving and achieving sales objectives and creating the vision to achieve the full potential for the department. Is familiar with fly-fishing brands and associated products and apparel. This individual will lead, hire, and develop the organization, plan product selections, and execute events and other activities to drive demand and the culture to meet stated sales and customer experience objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, determine, and delegate work within the organization to support stated objectives.
  • Evaluate and develop enhancements for efficiency and productivity.
  • Perform opening and closing duties per company standards
  • Team-based focus and building relationships with cross-functional teams and vendors
  • Execute department on floor merchandising within high company standards.
  • Always bring a suggestion to the table when you have a challenge to overcome
  • Use tools provided to plan, track, and report on results.
  • Ability to develop a team that can meet and exceed financial objectives.
  • Maintain a connection to the community and enjoy your passion and industry.
  • Manage workload, time management, and efficiencies to enable growth and time in the field.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of retail and/or management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, analytical skills, and foundational financial skills are required.
  • This person must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Detail-oriented and have the ability to meet deadlines and work well in a cross-functional matrix setting.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledgeable and passionate about industry products and services
  • Focus on the team, personal, professional, and business growth
  • Deep knowledge and experience with fishing gear and brands
