General Description of the Job

The Float/Breaker provides support to the Teaching Team to ensure a safe and consistent development environment. Daily assignments will include coverage for other staff members during breaks or planning time by stepping in the room to follow scheduled activities. Float/Breaker will be asked to clean toys and educational materials, clean common areas such as bathrooms, kitchen, break room, and outdoor play areas, removal of garbage, inventory of supplies, organization of art and supply cabinets.

Specific Duties of the Job

  • Report to Director, Assistant or Head Teacher upon arrival for daily assignment
  • Work as a team member to meet the needs of the children, classroom, and center as a whole
  • Meet the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive needs of each child
  • When appropriate participate in open communication with parents
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Report any suspect abuse to supervisor
  • Clean and arrange classroom environment in accordance to program goals and philosophy
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment
  • Inspect and replace damaged or lost materials
  • Attend in-service and staff meetings
  • Keep all appropriate records such as attendance and time sheets.
  • Meet all applicable licensing regulations

1. Knowledge of the growth process of children, 0 – 5 years old

2. Knowledge of activities that stimulate young children

3. Knowledge of safety issues surround young children

4. Skills in Patience

5. Skills in relaying positive reinforcement

6. Skills in positive communication

7. Skills in time management

8. Ability to organize your environment

9. Ability to plan and prioritize work

10. Ability to move and react quickly

11. Ability to research the needs of young children

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
