  • Starting Hourly Pay: $22.81
  • Multiple pay increases over your first 5.5 years of service, with an end salary of $29.66 per hour.

The Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky is a 427-bed nursing home facility. Two levels of care are offered: standard care for those veterans in need of any intermediate level of care, and special care for veterans with Memory Care needs.

The Home opened in 1888 to care for veterans of the Civil War and has been in continuous operation since. We pride ourselves in providing superior care to Ohio's veterans.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Resident Billing - Verifies resident Medicare entitlements & insurance benefits upon admission; gathers, audits, approves & enters ancillary charges into billing system; reviews claims to determine eligibility for reimbursement/payment & processes billing accordingly (e.g., Medicare A, Medicare B, Managed Care, Insurance claims for reimbursement of services rendered to residents); completes Triple Check process with MDS & therapy; submits all required information needed to process claims timely & assures all departments are aware of billing deadlines, works closely with therapy company; posts Medicare & insurance remits; analyzes the remits & records adjustments as needed; completes follow-up on all claims to assure proper payments are received.
  • Pre-Admission Interview/Admission – Reviews application packet &, when applicable, gathers additional data necessary for the determination of assessment; analyzes data & determines assessment based on verified income; prepares, explains, & obtains signature on all admission related forms (e.g., Income & Asset worksheet, Authorization for Personal Account, 10-10EZ, VA Formulary, VA Support of Claim, VA Authorization for Benefits, Health, Comfort and Welfare, etc.); summarizes Treasury Office Services (e.g., hours, assessment payment due dates, late fees, collections, OVH discount, etc.); identifies need for & assists in obtaining legal representative, when necessary; calculates change in assessment & obtains signatures on applicable forms for residents transferring between the Nursing Home (NH) & the Domiciliary (DOM).
  • General Office Duties – Fill in as cashier when necessary (e.g., MTF transactions, conducts banking for residents’ outside accounts, etc.), authorizes service connected resident invoices for payment; establishes & maintains resident files (e.g., electronic, paper, etc.).
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Completion of undergraduate core program in business administration, accounting, finance or related field; 6 mos. exp. or 6 mos. trg. in accounting &/or finance to include an intermediate level of experience in spreadsheet software.

  • Or 30 mos. exp. or 30 mos. trg. in accounting &/or finance to include an intermediate level of experience in spreadsheet software.

  • Or 12 mos. exp. as Financial Associate, 66561.

  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

NOTE: Successful completion of the Fiscal Academy may be substituted for 4 mos. of required accounting/fiscal experience referenced in this portion of the minimum qualifications.


Knowledge of accounting; applicable state &/or federal laws, rules, procedures & standards governing fiscal operations*; ERP systems* (e.g., OAKS FIN) &/or federal accounting system*; purchasing*; budgeting. Skill in use of calculator, electronic devices (e.g., computer, tablet, cell phone) & applicable software applications (e.g., spreadsheets, databases, word processing), multi-purpose workcentres; OAKS BI reporting*. Ability to define problems, collect & analyze data, establish facts & draw valid conclusions; prepare &/or edit financial reports, records, &/or correspondence; gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things; concentrate with attention to detail; deal with many variables & determine specific action; collaborate with co-workers on group projects &/or respond to confidential & sensitive inquiries from employees, public & government officials.
