RVA is seeking a highly motivated Field Biologist to join our team to conduct construction monitoring and environmental compliance throughout the southern California region. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring construction activities, completing reporting requirements, and ensuring compliance with regulatory permits and other environmental commitments for projects. Construction monitoring is a seasonal position from February to November. During the off-season, there will be work for other in-office related project tasks. Key Responsibilities

a) Conduct construction monitoring to ensure compliance with regulatory permits and associated laws protecting biological resources.

b) Understanding and interpreting regulatory permit conditions in Section 401 Certifications (Regional Water Quality Control Board), Section 404 Nationwide Verifications (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers), and Section 1600 Streambed Alteration Agreements (California Department of Fish and Wildlife) for projects.

c) Understanding of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and ability to research project compliance with federal, state, and local requirements and policies.

d) Communicate and collaborate with project managers, construction crews, and regulatory agencies.

e) Maintain accurate and detailed field notes, data sheets, and other project-related documentation of site conditions.

f) Prepare daily compliance monitoring reports.

g) Proactive approach towards project commitments and quality.

h) Participate in office meetings and, if necessary, with clients.

i) Strong organizational management and communication skills.

j) Strong writing skills.

k) Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) and Adobe Acrobat Pro applications..

Minimum Requirements:

a) Bachelor of Science/Art’s Degree in natural science, biology, botany, wildlife management, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience is required.

b) At least 1-3 years of field experience in southern California and familiar with CEQA and/or NEPA. Prior experience in environmental consulting is desirable.

c) Willingness to travel on a regular basis to project sites.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $27.00 - $29.00 per hour
