SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position involves professional work in counseling and testing inmates. Duties include but will not be limited to the following:

  • Conducts education orientation program for new arrivals, administers and scores achievement and placement tests.
  • Responsible for the administration of General Education Development (GED) testing. This duty includes responsibility for proper security of tests and related materials and compliance with prescribed testing procedures.
  • Maintains educational records, test scores and education progress of inmates.
  • Ensures that computerized educational records and reports are current.
  • Assists in the development of individualized education and transition plans.
  • Interviews and counsels with inmates regarding education, transition, and personal needs.
  • Ensures that achievements of inmates are recorded and recognized.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:


  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of counseling.
  • Knowledge of the basic principles of human behavior.
  • Ability to counsel individuals.
  • Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data relating to counseling and educational attainment of inmates.
  • Ability to utilize problem solving techniques.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to counseling of inmates.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work independently.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Please note, when submitting a college/university degree, if selected for this position official transcripts will be required.

  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university and possession of or be eligible for current Professional State of Florida Educator's Certificate and one (1) year of teaching experience.
  • Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator's Certificate.
    • SPECIAL NOTE: Non-certified applicants must obtain a State of Florida Educator’s Certificate within 12 months of hire. State of Florida Educator’s Professional Certificate must be obtained prior to the expiration of a Temporary Certificate.
