Position: Executive Director

Reports to: Officers, Executive and/or Board of Directors. Work closely with Officers, especially the President.
(Officers – President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, and Treasurer).

About: The Kern County Farm Bureau (KCFB) is a non-governmental, non-profit, voluntary membership
California corporation whose purpose is to protect, promote, educate and strength Kern County’s agricultural interests.
Farm Bureau is organized on a county, state and national level and members join by payment of nominal annual dues which entitles them to the wide range of services and benefits of membership.

Location: 1800 30th Street, Suite #390, Bakersfield, CA 93301

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and direct office staff and administer the day to day business activities including cash receipts, check deposits, fiscal management, budgeting, reporting, coordinating monthly financial statements and year end financical statement through accounting service of fiscal activities of the organization. o Prepare and deliver board meeting and committee meeting agenda and minutes. o Prepare and deliver KCFB board packages three days in advance of the board meeting including all the financials/budgets, meeting minutes, etc. o Oversee all committee budgets and special events as well as assist Committee Chairs in successful events. o Enhance fundraising and membership drive events for the KCFB such as but not limited to “Bounty of

Kern County”, “KCFB Golf Classic”, and “Save Water Drink Wine”. o Manage and participate in KCFB committees as outlined in our bylaws and as directed.

  • Maintain an open communication with the Officer Team (President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, and

Treasurer) o Prepare weekly communication log and monthly reports to officers and board on activities & duties performed

  • Oversee policy concerns, advocacy, information distribution and education programs as directed. Keep membership informed on pressing issues o Maintain the KCFB website and social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter o Submit eblasts regularly to keep members informed. o Responsible for writing an Executive Director report for the Valley Ag Voice every month and assist with advertisement royalties.
  • Media liaison to Officers for KCFB events and issues – including radio shows, media interviews, press releases: all media requests shall be immediately directed to the Officers.
  • Occasional public speaking of behalf of KCFB as directed.
  • Coordinate a strong membership acquistition and retention o Communicate regularly with Platinum Partners as well as work to build Platinum Partner memberships o Maintain monthly records of correspondence with members and Platinum Partners o Coordination of membership wth CaFB and Membership Chair

  • Be able to adjust and adapt to various leadership styles and expertise while maintaining the FB mission between those varying styles.
  • Maintain an active and good working relationship with direct service programs, affiliated companies of Farm

Bureau, governmental agencies, elected officials, other Farm Bureau organizations, other advocacy groups, non- farm organizations, Kern County Agricultural Commissioner and the Farm Service Agency o Regularly attend meeting and maintain working relationships with the County Board of Supervisors,Water Boards, Air Quality boards and similar agencies as directed.

  • Become knowledgeable in KCFB By-Laws and update the language as needed through the KCFB board
  • Other duties as required

Work Schedule: 40 hours per week with flexibility, which may include evenings and at times weekends. Must have open availability any day of the week based on needs of the organization.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree is a plus but not required
  • Strong knowledge in business fiscal affairs and budgeting
  • 1-2 year’s work experience in related field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Operating Systems
  • Website and Social Media experience
  • Familiar with agriculture in the county and related issues

Salary: Dependent on work experience
