This Energy Transition Group Specialist is responsible for providing Siting Licensing & Permitting (SLP) environmental support for projects across multiple business units. The SLP specialist assists with environmental due diligence efforts for new asset projects and works with project and environmental personnel to ensure all permitting and regulatory obligations are met for these complex projects that require coordination with multiple agencies at federal, state and local levels, and often have NEPA implications. The SLP professional serves as an Environmental Services interface point for project teams including renewables, natural gas, transmission, generation and nuclear.
The role involves all phases of project development, planning and execution to ensure siting and permitting efforts enable project success factors to be met, including scope, schedule, cost, quality, environmental, safety, communications, stakeholder engagement and alignment and integration. Works with others in permit applications and renewals. Work is completed under close supervision and is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives and soundness of technical judgment and overall adequacy. Assists in the evaluation and review of proposed projects to determine the appropriate due diligence and permitting approach. Maintains current knowledge on environmental laws and regulations and a working knowledge on the scientific and technical aspects of regulatory requirements and how they may impact company operations.
Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the environmental interface for new asset projects in development. Participate in site due diligence and provide feedback to project team on site constraints that may impact project viability.
  • Coordinate the assessment and onboarding of permit obligations for new asset projects and ensure resources are engaged to deliver required permits to support project schedule.
  • Lead accomplishment of project goals and enhance company reputation through effective planning, organizing, communicating and scheduling of environmental work activities to support project objectives.
  • Strive to continually develop and improve job-related, technical knowledge and skills to ensure that department expectations are met.
Basic/Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or other related field of study OR
  • 4 plus years of directly related work experience in lieu of a degree
Desired Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in engineering, science or other related field of study or business.
  • Has concept knowledge of environmental regulatory compliance requirements, scientific practices, quality assurance principles and auditing principles. Understands the technical skills in air, water or waste discipline areas.
  • Very good communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills with a customer-oriented focus.
  • Working toward certification(s) as an environmental professional (QEP, CHMM, PMP, etc.) or Registration (PE)
  • Experience in supporting environmental permitting on projects.
  • Experience in supporting environmental compliance at multiple facilities within multiple regulatory jurisdictions.
  • Understands systems and processes that comply with environmental laws and regulations, permit conditions, corporate policies, goals, and targets.
  • Some experience in negotiating with regulators.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and successfully complete each of them within specified timeframes.
  • Experience working with others from diverse groups working toward a common goal or objective.
  • Capable of learning quickly, working independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adapt to constant changing of work needs and priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience in making decisions, exercising good judgment and setting priorities.
