The work we do at the Kentucky Division for Air Quality has a direct impact on the health, welfare and economic security of all Kentuckians. To ensure that economic growth occurs while preserving existing air resources, the Division for Air Quality issues permits that contain all applicable requirements to these important manufacturing facilities.
We currently have an opening for an Environmental Engineer Assistant I in the Division’s Technical Support Branch, Source Sampling Section. We are looking for someone who is a detail oriented and independent worker, but still enjoys working as part of a collaborative team. The preferred candidate will have time management and decision-making skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills. This position will provide you with the opportunity to work across branches within the Division and with the regulated community.
Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Conducts beginning level observations and evaluations of continuous emission monitor certification tests and compliance tests
- Performs beginning level audits of protocols for tests of air pollution sources to ensure proper testing and engineering practices
- Performs beginning level evaluations and calculations on source emission test reports
- Reviews regulations and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) test methods
- Attends workshops, seminars, and meetings regarding test methods, protocols, and requirements

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering approved by the State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.

Working Conditions
Work is primarily performed in an office setting. Frequent travel throughout the state may be required.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
