RT&T, a joint venture of InDyne, Inc. and Amentum Services, Inc. is the prime contractor to support the Atlantic Range Technical Support Services (ARTSS) for the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) headquartered in Patuxent River, MD, and with locations in Maryland, Virginia, and California.

ARTSS supports Atlantic Test Ranges (ATR) and Atlantic Targets and Marine Operations (ATMO) in research and development, engineering, maintenance, operation, support of facilities, systems, and equipment in order to meet the engineering development and operational testing and fleet training missions for some of the world’s premier systems. Our work with the U.S. Navy keeps the warfighter safe by testing systems before they are used in combat, and we are hiring personnel to support this important mission.

Background Information: This full-time, onsite position supports the Test Communications team within the Range Operations Branch of the Atlantic Test Range (ATR) at Patuxent River, Maryland. Duties will be performed in support of ATR’s Test Communication Section. The Test Communications team provides test communications support to all ATR activities, including the operation and maintenance of microwave, fiber optic, satellite and terrestrial communications systems, UHF/VHF/HF voice and data communication links, command/control/flight termination systems, Ethernet and SONET network, radio frequency management, monitoring and interference control.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs project management, which may include gathering requirements, developing and presenting plans for additional funding, researching, procuring, and tracking necessary hardware purchases, equipment installations, and troubleshooting and maintaining system infrastructures
  • Installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining Radio Frequency (RF) radios to support real-time missions
  • Installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining copper and fiber cables for data transmissions
  • Designing, installing, operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining Flight Termination Systems (FTS) infrastructure to meet Range Safety and mission requirements
  • Participates with capturing and delineating requirements and testing of FTS systems
  • Performs analysis of data and develops reports to support certification of FTS
  • Participates in technical exchange meeting to discuss voice and FTS requirements and develops and implements plans to meet requirements
  • Tests software for voice communications systems and FTS to ensure equipment is functioning and aligned to correct support operations
  • Documents designs, installations, and modification of Test Communications Systems and maintains configuration management system
  • Researches hardware and/or labor through numerous avenues for contract and government contracts
  • Interacts with vendors for maintenance support for both hardware and software
  • Position may require frequent overtime and occasional travel

Education, Certifications, License, and Skill Requirements:

  • BS Degree in an engineering discipline from a school of engineering having at least one professional engineering curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) (or in related disciplines such as physics, mathematics or computer science) is required). Preferred Majors are Electronics Engineering and Electrical Engineering
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience performing the stated or similar functions. At least two (2) years of work experience associated with engineering functions as related to development, test, or evaluation of instrumentation systems. Possess an academic and work experience background in such areas as preparation of technical and operational test plans, execution of sophisticated tests, certification of systems, logistic support planning, technical data review, and analytical interpretation of test results. Knowledge of computer systems, software, networks, RF, and electronics.
  • Must have experience and skills with Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
  • Must have knowledge of RF and experience with technical troubleshooting and/or problem-solving
  • Experience with Microsoft Project is desired
  • Fiber experience with connectors, terminating, troubleshooting, splicing, polishing, etc. is desired
  • Copper cable experience with connectors, terminating, troubleshooting, etc. is desired
  • Knowledge of networking protocols and data flows is desired
  • Experience with C/C++ is desired
  • Experience with soldering is desired
  • Lab tools knowledge or experience with drills, wrenches, pliers, volt-meters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc. is desired
  • Candidate must be a self-starter and possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written skills
  • Must be flexible and team-oriented
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and successfully pass drug screening test

  • Must have and be able to maintain a United States Department of Defense Top Secret Security Clearance

Work Conditions:

  • Conditions may vary. Most work is performed in enclosed buildings, but some outside work may be required. Work will include sitting, standing, walking, lifting and reaching. Applicant should be capable of lifting 50-100 lbs. assisted by other employees. Vision abilities needed to perform this job include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.
