Who we are looking for:

We are currently searching for a Specialist, Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS). Reporting to the Sr. EHS Manager - HDPE, this position will be responsible for training employees on safety policies and practices, conducting regular inspections, generating health and safety assessment reports, and ensuring that all EHS guidelines and regulations are adhered to.

The ideal candidate will have a an associate’s degree in Safety Management, Safety Engineering, or similar certification or related field with 3-5 years of professional experience in environmental, health, and safety or combination of education and experience. Experience in lean manufacturing or business system-based company is a plus.

Additional Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist the EHS Sr Manager with multiple HDPE locations.
  • Perform incident investigations and assist in corrective actions.
  • Conduct job hazard analysis and recommend preventative/corrective action where hazards exist.
  • Interact with all departments to assist with EH&S issues.
  • Train employees on EH&S programs, manage training portal and employee updates.
  • Maintain EH&S records.
  • Perform administrative duties for the EHS department including but not limited to general data entry and filing of training records, compliance documentation, and other EH&S records.
  • Develop and support implementation of various safety policies and programs.
  • Handle confidential information.
  • Maintain EHS Regulatory Reporting Systems.
  • Working knowledge of Federal/State Regulatory Requirements (OSHA, DOT, EPA, ANSI).
  • Experience with safety programs such as PPE, Electrical Safety, Lockout/Tag out, Blood Borne Pathogens, Machine Guarding, Forklift, Hazard Communication and other programs as the need arises.
  • Working knowledge of chemical safety and hygiene.
  • Meeting with the management team to define EHS goals and objectives.
  • Training employees on health and safety policies and best practices.
  • Conducting inspections and identifying hazards and EHS violations.
  • Providing solutions and intervention strategies for hygiene, health, and safety hazards.
  • Implementing new health and safety protocols and measures to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Monitoring operational processes and employee activities.
  • Generating assessment documentation, incident and accident reports, and health and safety manuals.
  • Reporting to management, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Preparing and submitting health and safety compliance documents to the relevant organizations.
  • Keeping abreast of the latest EHS trends, policies, regulations, and best practices.
  • Provide regular reports to the EHS Manager.
  • Support and coordinate Corporate EHS programs and initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned by Management.

Qualifications include:

  • An associate’s degree in Safety Management, Safety Engineering, or similar certification or related field.
  • Three to five years of professional experience in environmental, health, and safety or combination of education and experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Safety Engineering, or similar certification or related field is preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of safety principles and federal/local regulations to include knowledge of OSHA regulations applicable to the manufacturing industry
  • Exhibit extraordinary discretion and flexibility
  • Excellent computer skills to include, Word, Power Point, Excel
  • Must display very good organization and time management skills
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with many types of personalities
  • Must have sound judgment and discretional skills and be able to work with little supervision
  • Must be able to consistently work under pressure and simultaneously prioritize multiple projects
  • Must be to work with sensitive and confidential material
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English
  • Must have a clean driving record and a valid, current driver’s license and vehicle insurance
  • Must be able to travel up to 50%
