Overview:
Utah State University Institute for Disabilities Research, Policy & Practice (IDRPP) is seeking a Developmental Specialist (Teacher, Early Intervention) to join the Up to 3 Early Intervention Program. This specialist provides parent training in all developmental areas through individual and group sessions. They will help facilitate Pyramid Model group services, evaluate child development, and help develop and administer treatment plans. This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities. This is a full-time, benefited position that can be between 75% - 100% time depending on program needs and the candidate selected. This position is based on the USU-Logan campus with a work space at the IDRPP.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide parent training for children enrolled in Up to 3 through face-to-face, groups, and individual sessions through Up to 3 hybrid service model procedures.
  • Provide families with the necessary knowledge and tools to enhance their child’s growth and development in all areas.
  • Administer child evaluation and assessments; facilitate and/or participates in the team determination of program eligibility.
  • Assessing children, help develop IFSP, implement service patterns, participate in staff meeting, and travel to homes and community sites to provide services.
  • Develop strategies to build on family concerns, priorities, and resources.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in special education, psychology, human development and family studies, social work, early childhood education, disability studies, or other related degree plus one year of relevant experience.
  • Have or the ability to obtain a Baby Watch Early Intervention Certification.
  • Experience administering the Batelle Develpopmental Inventory
  • Experience working with young children who are Spanish speaking
  • Experience working with children with Autism/ASD
Preferred Qualifications
  • Skills, knowledge, and experience specifically focused on the needs of young children (Birth to 3 years) and their families.
  • Excellent interpersonal, networking, community, organizational, problem solving, decision-making skills.
  • Organization skills with timely data entry, scheduling, and priority setting.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of infant development.
  • Knowledge of methodology for working with children with Autism/ASD
  • Ability to complete child developmental assessment, interpret and integrate assessment information needed to develop individualized plans, and provide parent coaching to address individualized goals.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Knowledge of teaching methods, curriculum, and education programs designed for families with children/child with disabilities.
  • Ability to address sensitive and/or confidential issues within administrative and procedural guidelines.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to train and guide parents, staff, students, and volunteers.
  • Ability to attend activities required by the State Health Department Baby Watch Early Intervention program.
  • Ability to be trained and implement Pyramid model

Funding Statement
The Institute for Disability Research, Policy, & Practice is one of the largest research and outreach centers at USU, and we are largely funded through grants, contracts, and fee-for-service programs. All staff positions at the IDRPP are contingent upon funding, and all senior staff at the IDRPP with graduate degrees are responsible for helping to generate funding to support our operations and growth.
