DSHS ESA Child Support Enforcement Officer 3

Are you are interested in expanding and growing your current skills with DSHS' Economic Services Administration?

In this role, you will offer direction and training in all areas of child support collection and enforcement. As the first line of contact for conflict resolution of debt and other child support-related concerns, you will provide technical expertise with changes in laws, policies, and procedures to the team. This is a great opportunity to join our team in the Vancouver Field Office, help us on our mission to Transform Lives!

Here's some of what you'll be doing:

  • Train staff in all aspects of child support collections/enforcement
  • Create, proof, and maintain curriculum for the Academy
  • Review work and explain child support laws and procedures
  • Audit work and workflow to meet Federal and State guidelines
  • Review and make determinations on child support distribution issues
  • Make critical casework decisions such as initiating, preparing, signing, and serving administrative and legal support enforcement actions
  • Establish Administrative Child Support Orders by researching and locating income information
  • Analyze, interpret, and apply State, Tribal, Federal, and international laws pertaining to paternity determination
  • Calculate complex financial and medical child support obligations and arrearages
  • Assist with developing and implementing training plans and performance management plans
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Knowledge of State statutes and Federal regulations, legal rights, and remedies in support of enforcement
  • Ability to train, multi-task, prioritize workload, and be responsive to change
  • Knowledge of paternity establishment, accounting, and collection practices
  • Verbal and written communication skills that will support case management skills for a large, growing, and diverse caseload
  • Customer service
  • Ability to learn and navigate new programs
  • Ability to work independently and develop training plans for new and long-term staff
Who should apply?
Professionals with 2 years of college-level coursework and 4 years of experience related to child support enforcement and/or debt collection (or equivalent education/experience), which includes at least 2 years of experience as a Support Enforcement Officer for Washington State.
