Oklahoma City Indian Clinic is hiring a Director of Pharmacy! This position will be responsible for the operation and management of the Pharmacy Department including but not limited to the following: pharmacy strategic planning; designing, managing, measuring and improving the medication management system; ensuring quality outcomes through performance-improvement activities; leading drug-utilization efforts; optimizing use of information systems and technology; managing the pharmaceutical supply chain, pharmacy department financial operations, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides leadership, direction, organization, planning and implementation of all pharmacy programs promoting effective utilization of all resources and also promotes quality pharmaceutical services for the Clinic.
  • Establishes satisfactory methods of drug distribution and control.
  • Establishes quality specifications for all drugs used in the Clinic in accordance with the recommendations of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and develops the appropriate pharmacy policies and procedures.
  • Determines job objectives, work methods, and performance standards for the pharmacy staff.
  • Establishes reporting and approval procedures; delegate authority to other pharmacists in order for them to direct the work of others. Provide authorization for supervision, orientation, training, job objectives, performance standards and appraisal, personal development, and other personnel actions.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve quality, safety, patient experience, and access to the pharmacy.
  • Ensures that pharmacy staff participates as disciplinary team members who are responsible for patients medication-related outcomes.
  • Evaluates medication expenditure patterns and reimbursement trends, including the potential development of value-based approaches to pharmaceutical reimbursement.
  • Responsible for oversight of all pharmaceutical contracting, procurement, receiving, security, inventory control, diversion prevention, reverse distribution, and other methods of pharmaceutical waste disposal.
  • Responsible for emergency preparedness of the supply chain, including strategies to ensure ongoing safe and effective patient care during drug product shortages through the collaborative development of alternatives to treatment and restricted use guidelines.
  • Oversees the design, implementation, and management of a safe and effective medication management system based on evidence and best practices and using contemporary quality-improvement methods.
  • Provides leadership at the organization level to ensure that pharmacists are positioned to improve the quality, safety and efficiency of medication management throughout the Clinic.
  • Collaborates with medical peers to develop drug-utilization and formulary initiatives that optimize therapeutic outcomes, reduce the risk of drug-related problems, and ensure the use of cost-effective pharmacotherapy.
  • Determines the appropriate number, type and qualification of staff required to meet patient care needs, satisfy regulatory and accrediting requirements, achieve the organizations mission and advance pharmacy practice.
  • Implements standards and development programs to advance the use of pharmacy technicians within the organization, allowing the redeployment of pharmacists time to drug therapy management activities.
  • Develops programs that fully leverage the use of students and residents within the organization, which includes participating in the development of student and resident standards to ensure that education and training reflects the needs of the patients and the pharmacy.
  • Ensures continued compliance with all national, state, and local regulations related to medications and their management.
  • Responsible for the implementation of the rules and regulations of the Oklahoma Board of Pharmacy, Drug Enforcement Agency, Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services, and other medication management accreditation standards; for maintaining AAAHC accreditation and for the implementation of best practices.
  • Maintains affiliations with Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) College of Pharmacy, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center College of Pharmacy, and the SWOSU-Walgreens pharmacy residency program.
  • Serves as vice-chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
  • Serves or delegates a pharmacy staff member to be the pharmacy representative on various Clinic committees designated to enhance patient care.
  • Participates in clinic health promotion and prevention education programs.

  • OKCIC requires the Covid Vaccine prior to employment.
  • Bachelors degree or higher in pharmacy program recognized by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education.

  • Five (5) + years of experience in community health or outpatient setting.

  • Previous Pharmacy Managerial experience.

  • Licensed and in good standing by the Oklahoma State Pharmacy Board.

  • Current immunization license.

  • Current preceptor license.

  • Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate.

  • Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ALCS) preferred.
