The role of the Director of Sales

Essential Functions

The Director of Sales forms part of the Hotel Leadership team who collectively makes key strategic and operational decisions for the Hotel. The Director of Sales oversees all activities with the support of teams including catering, reservations and revenue management, public relations and marketing communications for the Hotel and Food & Beverage outlets and ensures that all activities, promotions and bookings are focused to yield maximum revenue per room occupied and overall food and beverage revenues.

Hotel Revenue

  • The ability to director sales activities of the hotel to achieve budget goals
  • The ability to monitor and identify current and future business trends to insure profitable sales in periods of low and high demands
  • The ability to negotiate and achieve maximum revenue/profit potential while satisfying client’s needs.

Sales

  • The ability to negotiate and confirms sales and achieve personal quota
  • The ability to develop a program resulting in the achievement of annual departmental goals for leads sent to other Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts.
  • The ability to insure that the sales staff sells all hotel products.
  • The ability to enhance the hotel's community image and stay abreast of the competition, new developments and sales methods and techniques in the hotel industry to maximize sales and profitability.
  • Monitor and review the monthly profit and loss statement of each entity, analyze the results and take action when necessary
  • Make suggestions for improvements in overall operations with an emphasis on increasing owner satisfaction, revenue and reducing costs

Managing Sales Activity

  • Make suggestions for improvements in overall operations with an emphasis on increasing owner satisfaction, revenue and reducing costs
  • The ability to direct the reporting and appraising of results against planned objectives
  • Coordinates sales staff activities; takes appropriate action to maximize sales and affect need periods.
  • The ability to control data, availability, and rate on guest rooms and function space.
  • The ability to establish group room night and average rate goals based on marketing plan and overall objectives.
  • The ability to manage transient and group room commitments to ensure proper market mix.
  • The ability to manage function space allocation for group and catering bookings based on established guidelines and procedures.
  • The ability to review sales and catering work files to ascertain a proper exchange of information between hotel and client.

People Management

  • The ability to recruit, select and familiarize sales department personnel with the Hotel and their functions.
  • Represent the interests of the guest, and employees in a fair, impartial and equitable manner
  • Implement and develop training programs in all departments to produce in-depth qualified personnel, to ensure continuity of management, and prepare for vacancies and/or transfer requirements
  • Complete performance reviews for all sales personnel including management, according to established performance standards
  • Mentor, lead and develop talent within property; facilitate a pipeline of talent for future Sales Management roles

Knowledge and Skills

Education:

  • College education in Hospitality, Business Administration or Marketing is preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years in a leadership role in sales with a strong track record in a luxury resort
  • Previous experience in employee engagement, employer branding, onboarding.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work with all hotel systems and maintain a high attention to detail.
  • Excellent reading, writing & oral proficiency in English and ideally Spanish language.
  • Basic knowledge of audio-visual equipment, internet, telecommunication technology.
  • Basic knowledge of Delphi/Golden software
  • Understand and ability to deliver high quality, luxury service standards.
  • Highest level of integrity and transparency
  • Apply an ethical approach to the outcome of situations
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills to work with cross-functional teams and clients and vendors.
  • Able to take ownership with problem-solving, decision-making and conflict resolution.
  • Work in a safe, prudent and organized manner
