This individual reports to the Vice President - Pharmacy Services HFHS and has overall responsibility for assuring pharmacy services within the hospital meet organizational objectives and patient care needs. The director provides guidance and direction in planning, organizing and supervising activities of the members of his/her management team and, through them, all members of the hospital's pharmacy staff. At the Health System level, this individual assists in conceptualizing, implementing and evaluating models of practice that improve the quality and economy of pharmacy services and in developing and implementing pharmacy policies, procedures and processes that assure patients receive drug therapy that is safe, effective and as economic as possible.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Must have obtained an advanced degree (post BS Pharm.D., MS, MBA or equivalent), completed a residency program approved by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, a fellowship in pharmacy, or have demonstrated a similar level of achievement in the practice of hospital pharmacy. Must have demonstrated leadership ability in working with and coordinating the activities of others in developing improved patient care services. Must demonstrate verbal and written communication skills which enable him/her to contribute effectively in the dissemination of information to all levels of health care personnel in the institution. He/she should likewise demonstrate a desire to contribute to the pharmaceutical literature. Must have a strong background in all areas of progressive hospital pharmacy practice. Must have a previous work history of reliability, dependability and progressively increasing levels of organizational responsibility. Must be able to work with pharmacy students at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels. Should have completed research which demonstrates originality and investigative ability in an area of pharmacy practice. The work should be suitable for publication in the pharmaceutical or medical literature. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED: Licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of Michigan.
