The Director of Organizational Development is responsible for working with internal business partners to establish, align, and improve organizational processes, systems, and solutions that positively impacts organizational performance and strengthens both employee engagement, and our organizational culture. This includes the development of an organizational learning strategy and training program, conceptualizing strong employee engagement efforts and recognition/celebration efforts, as well as leadership of an OD team that enhances the skills, performance, and morale of individuals, teams, and business units throughout the organization. This position works under the supervision of the Chief People, Equity, and Culture Officer.

Essential Functions:

1. Leads employee development and engagement efforts aimed at advancing The Planned Parenthood Experience (PPX): In This Together initiative at PPIL, with the goal of creating a highly differentiated employee experience that attracts new employees and recruits and retains top talent for our positions.

2.Guide organization-wide staff development and engagement initiatives, with a focus on building a culture consistent with our values and strategic plan, strengthening internal pathways into leadership, and professional development that ensures all PPIL people managers have the leadership capabilities to serve our mission.

3. Provides leadership for engaging new Organizational Development efforts that cultivate, enhance, and promote an environment that supports the resilience of and a feeling of belonging for all staff.

4. Conceptualizes, implements, and ensures success of all PPIL Employee Appreciation and Recognition initiatives to ensure that PPIL staff feel valued and acknowledged for strong performance; regularly solicits feedback to improve recognition offerings.

5. Hire, train, supervise, mentor and evaluate Organizational Development staff who understand and commit to excellence in training and agency-wide professional development. Regularly conceptualize new ways to develop individual trainer and facilitator effectiveness.

6. Directs strategies and interventions in response to the annual Press Ganey Employee Engagement Survey data. Leads all Press Ganey rollout efforts, including associated reporting and action planning initiatives, including overseeing the improvement plan for Tier 3 teams.

7. Directs the creation and implementation of innovative professional training programs that meet the needs of early and mid-career professionals, and BIPOC professionals, specifically.

8. Implements evaluation, auditing tools, and pre- and post- surveys to ensure standardized, high quality training of affiliate staff. Assess impact/efficacy of training and collaborates on training needs with Department heads, Regional Directors (RD), and Quality and Risk Department, when needed.

9. In partnership with the Director of Equity & Culture provides coaching, facilitation, team development, and whole systems and process analysis in an effort to improve PPIL’s culture and to best ensure that PPIL’s values are carried out in all that we do.

10. Identifies training and development needs by analyzing organizational results, job requirements, operational issues, plans and forecasts current training programs, and facilitates trainings as necessary; Conducts ongoing needs assessments/analysis that diagnose organizational performance opportunities. Builds strategic, integrated solutions that address causes affecting performance by providing recommendations using assessments and data analysis, to the appropriate business functions.

11. Directs learning & development programming and coaching opportunities for all PPIL leaders.

12. Directs career pathway initiatives, the professional development plan process, and succession planning initiatives for PPIL staff and teams (e.g. PPIL’s Emerging Leaders and Mentorship Programs).

13. Participates in national PPFA training events surrounding the Planned Parenthood Experience (PPX).

14. Regularly collaborates with the Senior Director of Patient Services and the Director of Health Equity on the intersection of Employee Engagement and Patient Experience at PPIL.

15. Regularly solicit internal feedback to improve departments’ staff performance, offerings, and processes.

16. Collaborate with Health Center Training Team, when necessary.

17. Works in conjunction with organizational leadership to ensure the alignment of OD and training strategies and programs with the organization’s mission, brand, and strategic plan.

18. Designs and develops learning materials to include a wide variety of learning tools, including, but not limited to: Instructor Led, E-Learning and Web-based programs and tools.

19. Develops and maintains applicable policies and procedures related to all training and educational programs.

20. Through these activities demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to PPIL core values of access, activism, care, confidentiality, diversity, excellence, integrity, respect, self-determination, and stewardship; practice these values in relations with internal and external customers.

Other Responsibilities:

21. Coordinate with Manager(s)/Department Heads to provide support, with respect to professional development needs.

22. Track trainings and educational programs and collect data regarding their organizational impact and compile all related documentation (e.g. attendance logs, etc.) in conjunction with appropriate staff.

23. Models, communicates, and celebrates the Planned Parenthood Experience: In This Together Workplace Values and Service Standards. 24. Other duties as assigned.

Status: Full time, exempt from overtime provision of federal salary guidelines

Qualifications:

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience required. Training and/or education in the reproductive health or medical services and/or adult learning desirable.

Experience:

  • 7-10 years’ experience in Human Resources, Organizational Development/Effectiveness, or Employee Engagement or Training required; experience in a health care setting, preferably Planned Parenthood recommended.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in management, and delivering training, including evidence of curriculum development and design. Strong training skills both in person and in virtual settings.
  • Experience teaching in matters of women’s health and/or reproductive health a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of progressive education delivery and training management experience.
  • Progressive expertise in change management, organization effectiveness, workforce planning, career development, leadership coaching or related field.

  • Commitment to the efficient and customer-oriented provision of services, as well as a commitment to the operating goals of Planned Parenthood of Illinois.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills. Ability to communicate with diverse groups of people including patients, the public, staff, and volunteers in a professional, warm, and sensitive manner. Bi-lingual ability in Spanish or other languages common to the area is helpful.
  • Familiarity and high comfort level with internet-based technology; proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to work with and assess comprehension from many types of learners. Patience, initiative and ability to work under minimal supervision are required.
  • Ability to complete projects in a self-directed manner.
  • High energy level, organizational skills and attention to detail required. Willingness to participate in a team approach to healthcare and management.
  • Ability and willingness to travel among sites, statewide.
