Primary Purpose:
Leads internal team charged with developing, deploying, and monitoring of advanced train control systems at Norfolk Southern, including, but not limited to Positive Train Control (PTC), Energy Management (EM), and Automated Train Operations (ATO). Coordinates PTC deployment efforts with passenger, commuter, and other tenant railroads as well as other NS departments to maintain interoperability of train operations, consistent with existing agreements.

Principal Duties:
  • Develops system design strategy among industry and company peers to ensure complete product design and effective stakeholder involvement
  • Communicates necessary product requirements with train control vendor community to facilitate software releases that effectively perform desired functions
  • Oversees verification and validation (V&V) of each new and updated product release within train control operations, along with developing automated testing strategies for V&V efforts
  • Reviews and advises on documentation in support of required train control regulatory filings, as well as coordinating compliance audits for conformance to FRA regulatory requirements
  • Monitors system operations through ATC Operations Center, leading analysis efforts to identify most impactful areas for system improvement
  • Devises strategy to measure system performance to deliver system design improvements necessary to meet operational goals
  • Shares management of corporate automation of train operations (ATO) program
  • Recruits diverse talent and experiences
  • Coaches and develops people with clear expectations, feedback, stretch assignments, and celebrates accomplishments


Job Related Experience:
Minimum Level: 3-5 years
Preferred Level: 6-10 years

Education:
Preferred Level: Bachelor's Degree (BA, BS)
Preferred Majors: Business - Business Administration, Information Systems, various Engineering
