The Director of Maintenance/Facilities will be a full-time supervisory position that will report directly to the Executive Director. Responsible for the planning, organizing, supervising and controlling the activities of the Bethany Home facilities and maintenance functions which are necessary in maintaining the physical structures and mechanical systems of the facility in safe working condition. Responsible for all trades needed to expedite daily activities of the department including grounds keeping, security, outside vendors, contractors and consultants.

Essential Duties include:


  • Maintain and monitor department personnel matters.
  • Schedule and supervise the daily maintenance routine and repair work.
  • Establish and implement a formal preventative maintenance program.
  • Develop, evaluate and implement departmental policies and procedures.
  • Report to the Executive Director the physical and structural conditions of facilities, equipment, and the status of work in progress.

  • Hire and train new departmental staff.

  • Evaluate work performance, promotion, discipline and termination of the maintenance staff.

  • Work closely with other departments when planning work schedules and job assignments.

  • In conjunction with the Executive Director and Independent Living, coordinate the repair and cleaning of apartments between renters.

  • Consult with Executive Director on repairs beyond the scope of skills or time allotment and arrange for outside performance of such repairs and generally supervise the same.

  • Develop, plan and monitor annual department budget.

  • Purchase all maintenance supplies, monitor their use, and consult with other supervisors relative to changes in product lines and types and amounts of supplies to have in inventory.

  • Responsible for the selection and coordination of all maintenance contractors.

  • Oversee the daily performance of grounds care.

  • Develop a written preventative maintenance program.

  • Regularly update preventative maintenance schedules in consultation with Administrators, fellow supervisors, and outside consultants.

  • Maintain, update and/or add to maintenance manuals, logs and schedules on a regular basis.

  • Be familiar with the requirements of Federal and State Regulations, Title 22, Code of California, as it pertains to Skilled Nursing Facility maintenance and Assisted Living maintenance requirements.

  • Stay informed of all law changes pertaining to building code matters.

  • Responsible for the transportation needs of the facility.

  • Participate actively on committees as appointed.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
