Winthrop & Weinstine is seeking a Director of Human Resources to join our Human Resources Department. The Director of Human Resources has primary responsibility for administering and overseeing all aspects of the Human Resources function, including policy development and administration, compensation, compliance, employee relations, performance management, recruiting, learning and development and Human Resources Department processes/best practices. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment as part of a close-knit team provides a challenging opportunity and an enjoyable workplace. The responsibilities for this position will include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with leadership to understand the firm’s goals and strategy related to the human resources department initiatives.
  • Plan, lead, develop, coordinate, and implement policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys to support the firm’s human resources compliance and strategy needs.
  • Identify staffing and recruiting needs; develop and execute best practices for hiring and talent management.
  • Design and implement employee retention strategies.
  • Monitor and ensure the firm’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain handbook on policies and procedures. Review and update policies and practices to maintain compliance. Create new policies as necessary and a repository as a single point of access for all policies.
  • Recommend Human Resources Department best practices.
  • Handle employee relations; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management.
  • Create learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees. Partner with managers to create a career development path for employees in their department.
  • Develop and implement an orientation program for new employees to ensure employees gain an understanding of firm policies and procedures and are set up for success for their job responsibilities.
  • Oversee and manage a performance appraisal system that drives high performance.
  • Coordinate performance evaluation for associate attorneys with Associate Review Committee.
  • Coordinate performance evaluation for paralegal and administrative staffs.
  • Develop and maintain a compensation strategy for all employees based on market research, salary surveys and firm philosophy.
  • Prepare salary adjustments and participate in salary recommendation meetings with management.
  • Conduct research and analysis of firm trends including review of reports and metrics from the human resource information system (HRIS) or talent management system.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; apply this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management.
