About the Organization:
YWCA San Antonio exists to eliminate racism and empower women through programs to help women achieve self-sufficiency and break the cycle of poverty for their families and community. Toward that end,
YWCA provides services, including child care, economic empowerment, educational achievement, women’s health, and senior services.

Purpose:
The Director of Child Development carries the major responsibilities for the YWCA Olga Madrid Child
Care Center including management, planning, implementing and designing the curriculum; overseeing the administrative and operational functions of the Center including Early Head Start classrooms, Texas
Rising Star Requirements, Texas Childcare Minimum Standards; and recruiting families through Alamo
Workforce Solutions and the community.

Status: Salaried Exempt
Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

Duties, Responsibilities, and Essential Job Functions:
These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

TOP PRIORITIES:
∙ Strategy and Oversight - Designs, develops, directs, and implements all elements of the YWCA

Child Development Center’s curriculum to align with the mission of eliminating racism and empowering women as well as standards related to Texas Rising Star and City, State, and
Federal licensing, Early Head Start Program.

∙ Supervisory Responsibilities-Manages a subordinate supervisor, Assistant Director of Child
Development, who co-supervises an average of about 20 employees. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these employees. Also, directly supervises 1 non-supervisory employee in the position of Childcare Mentor/Trainer. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

∙ Enrollment -Ensures Center is fully enrolled through ongoing recruitment of families.
∙ Parent Engagement and Support - Creates parent engagement opportunities for families to build quality of holistic education of children;
∙ Compliance - Implements the Center’s contractual obligations, specifically Texas Rising Star,

EHS, CCDS, and United Way; performs research and uses independent judgment to respond to customers, clients and other employees

∙ Community Engagement - Serves as liaison for child care center with various funding agencies to ensure appropriate and timely reimbursements are received; participate and assist outside agencies in audits and monitoring child care center; Creates and maintains on-site tracking systems for measurable outcomes; Coordinates training and program monitor reviews for programs, staff, etc.

∙ Reporting-Responsible for completing and submitting all required reporting as set forth by Texas
Rising Star, Early Head Start, United Way, Childcare Licensing, and any other reporting requirement from YWCA funders.

Weekly and Daily Tasks:
∙ Responsible for the implementation, accurate charging and acceptance of childcare tuition payments using the ProCare system.
∙ Orders supplies and educational tools as well as reviews and processes all invoices and; Works with finance to monitor outstanding balances and or discrepancies with funding sources and develop spending plans.

∙ Reviews and approves the payroll for YWCA Child Development Staff as outlined the YWCA
Payroll Schedule, checking for timely completeness and accuracy, and ensuring Payroll
Department receives all required information.

∙ Recruits and coaches’ new staff and oversee staffing coverage.
∙ Tracks average attendance; reviews monthly expenditures; ensures timely and required reporting.
∙ Oversees Assistant Director in collecting pertinent information from childcare center staff, parents and all other staff related to the projects and programs. Maintains and updates information as needed, create and run requested reports. Maintains accuracy and integrity of the YWCA reporting system;

∙ Consults with other administrative and program staff to maintain professional continuity.
∙ Attends meetings on behalf of the YWCA Child Development Center as required by Texas Rising

Star, Early Head Start, Texas Childcare Licensing, United Way, any and all current/potential funders to give update on program achievements and answer any/all questions pertaining the
YWCA Child Development.

∙ Have the ability to identify, address/troubleshoot issues that occur in the Child Development
Center. Serves as the final say on center management decisions.

∙ Answer phones, provides classroom coverage as needed, contact person for all center operations.

∙ Assume the position of Assistant Director, Childcare Mentor, Child Development Teacher/Floater,
Driver, when needed/as needed to maintain childcare ratios.

∙ Assists on assigned projects under the direction of the CEO

Qualifications
∙ Associates Degree or 4 years of child care related experience with a CDA Certification.

Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.
∙ Experience working in a licensed childcare facility or in a school environment (early elementary education)
∙ Commitment to the mission of the YWCA of eliminating racism and empowering women
∙ Cultural competency
∙ Bilingual a plus
∙ Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
∙ Supervisory responsibility (2 year minimum)
∙ Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
∙ Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
∙ Ability to collaborate with other agencies in the San Antonio community.
