MWH Constructors, an industry-leading constructor of water and wastewater facilities, is seeking a seasoned Director of Business Development (DBD) to help lead the future growth of the company. The ideal candidate will have strong relationships in the western United States with stakeholders in the water and wastewater industry such as clients, vendors, suppliers, engineers, and subcontractors.

The DBD is responsible for the successful growth of MWH in the western water markets, including: identifying and developing leads that fit our business, entering and tracking those opportunities in our CRM system, maintaining relationships internally and externally, identifying teaming partners when appropriate, and developing winning content for proposals and presentations. The DBD also participates in near and long-term strategic planning, forecasting, and budgeting activities and represents MWH Constructors in organizations and external market functions.

Essential Functions

  • Takes ownership of the entire Business Development projects from client relationship development, lead identification and development, and the overall pursuit process.
  • Participates in annual strategic and budget planning activities related to business development and company growth by developing market data on opportunities, market conditions, emerging trends, and other pertinent economic factors.
  • Participates in water and wastewater industry conferences, events, and activities to increase market presence and awareness.
  • Maintains positive industry relationships with clients, engineers, vendors, subcontractors, and other pertinent key stakeholders.
  • Enters and manages data within our CRM system.
  • Operates as a key member of strategic pursuit teams by participating in capture and campaign activities, leading go vs. no-go discussions, writing and editing proposal and SOQ content, and coaching project interview teams.
  • Leads and supports other company marketing activities such as conferences, events, advertisements, award submissions, and social media content.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience with business development, market research, and sales activities.
  • Client facing experience developing new business for water/wastewater projects.
  • Ability to successfully manage CRM systems.
  • Outstanding research, business, and communications skills.
  • Creative problem-solving ability, negotiation and follow-up skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work assignments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering, construction management, business, computer science or a related degree. An equivalent combination of experience, skills and training may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior related water/wastewater design or construction experience.
