Digital Content Lead - 12 month FTC

As the Product Information Lead you will be accountable for the delivery of Product Content and Imagery across a number of our General Merchandise and Home categories – this will mean accountability for products across multiple websites e.g. Argos.co.uk, Argos.ie, Habitat.co.uk and Sainsburys.co.uk. Annually, you will oversee the successful launch of several thousand products across our websites. Working closely with the Digital Operations Centre, you will implement the Product Information Strategy for the categories you are responsible for.

We are on an exciting journey to re-establish our product induction; we want our customers to directly associate our content with our brand identities. Our goal is to surprise and delight our customers by providing them will all the information and richer content required to make an informed purchase. Because of this, having an excellent understanding of quality product content, SEO, CGC, a mobile first approach and a high attention to detail are vital skills for this role.


What you need to do:

  • To provide thought leadership to the team in the Digital Operations Centres who are accountable for the day-to-day maintenance of all of the category’s product related data within the company’s main product Information database, ensuring that all customer facing product information continually meets the changing needs of the Argos customer.
  • To facilitate operational efficiencies whilst looking for opportunities for continuous improvement and ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of product content to schedule.
  • Encourage a culture of collaboration across teams. Influencing key stakeholders across function.
  • Develop & Coach the Product Information Team across the DOC and onshore locations, ensuring that customer focus, commercial awareness and category expertise are achieved by all members of the team.
  • To effectively plan, organise and prioritise the requirements of the business against required deadlines.
  • Effectively implement change management, we are ever evolving to meet the demands of a changing market and growing business as we continue to enhance our digital capabilities.
  • Implement a digital/mobile first approach to our content creation utilising our own photographic studio Bradwell media.
  • Effective management across multiple sites - as Argos is now a part of the Sainsbury’s Group we are required to collaborate with stakeholders across multiple sites, building relationships which enable distant working.
  • Implement content strategy – ensure growth of relevant categories through successful implementation of category content plans, working collaboratively with the Digital Content Strategy Planners to ensure product content is executed in line with customer journeys and with the goal of optimising the customer experience.
  • Act as project lead where needed on key production and content uplift projects, working closely with the DOC.
  • Own supplier and agency relationships where required.

What you need to know and show:

  • Excellent understanding of product content with a good knowledge of SEO implications of Product Content.
  • Strong governance skills and the ability to prioritise effectively (essential)
  • A good understanding of Mobile first content
  • Strong planning and organisational skills (essential)
  • Strong presentational skills both in terms of public speaking and in the promotion and presentation of self.
  • Experience managing a network of stakeholders and suppliers and able to challenge effectively at all levels to drive positive change.
  • Analytical mindset and the ability to look past the “now” and into opportunities to improve customer experience.
  • Experienced in implementing content strategies and complex projects requiring cross functional buy-in of stakeholders.

What decisions I can make including budget:

  • Indirect management of cost centre budgets.
  • Prioritisation of Digital Operations Centre team outputs.
  • Implementation of new ways of working to enable an efficient operation.
  • Allocation and briefing of content requirements into Bradwell Media to support the delivery of content plans.
  • Refuse and approve product content provided from suppliers.

Directly or indirectly manages:

  • Indirectly manage the team in the DOC responsible for your category – ensuring they are aware of business priorities.
