SALARY RANGE: STEP C ($3,699/Month) – STEP H ($4,498/Month) (SR15, BU03)

***Appointment may be made at any rate within the salary range advertised above at which appropriate qualified applicants can be recruited. Starting salary will be based on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

JOB DUTIES: The Dietetic Technician provides food and nutrition services to patients under the supervision of a registered dietitian (RD). Primary responsibilities may include: nutrition screening and participation in the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) as determined by the RD for nutrition assessment; conduct Patient and Resident Meal Rounds; represent Dietary department at meetings; develop nutritional plans; documenting medical, food, and nutrition-related data; interviewing patient/resident and/or family members to obtain food preferences and create house or computer meal tickets; reviewing patient menus for conformance to diet order; providing individualized or group nutrition education; monitoring meal, snack and/or medical food intake to contribute to evaluation of the patient’s progress and revision of intervention/plan of care, if indicated; monitoring the quality and accuracy of food served to patient.

The Dietetic Technician may also assist with and/or supervise the setting up of trays for patients; assuring accuracy of menus with patient diet orders; preparation of nourishments, tube feedings, and other foods for tray service; Quality assurance checks; and performs other duties as assigned. They may also promote healthy eating and counsel patients/residents and their family members on how to choose and prepare healthy meals as well as prepare nutritional meal plans for patients/residents under the guidance of the Registered Dietitian.

MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK SHIFTS AS NECESSARY BASED ON HOSPITAL OPERATIONS; SERVICES ARE PROVIDED 24/7.

THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.

EDUCATION:

  • An associate’s degree from an accredited college with courses focusing on nutrition and food. A two (2) year associate’s degree approved by Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics and Education (CADE) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) is preferred.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

  • One (1) year of specialized experience assisting a nutritionist or dietitian with design, implementation and/or supervision of food service operations; plan diets or menus for health maintenance/portion control.

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of simple food preparation; operating and cleaning kitchen appliances and utensils; kitchen sanitation and safety and personal hygiene. Ability to follow oral and written instructions; understand basic diets and special diets. Be detail oriented in processing orders, patient names and unit. Measure food servings and serve food. Work cooperatively with others. Helpful to have basic computer skills.

LICENSURE:

  • None required.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employee must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed materials the size of typewritten characters glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aide, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily. Moderate to heavy physical effort (lift/carry up to 50lbs. with assistance). Pushes/pulls heavy equipment/supplies. Frequent standing/walking. Frequent contact with water or other liquid. Variations in temperature from hot to cold. May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases. Rotating shift work.

Required Forms & Documentation: Evidence of the appropriate training (e.g., official transcript or degree) to be given credit for education and/or experience. A legible photocopy will be accepted; however, Kona Community Hospital reserves the right to request an official copy.

STEPS TO AN ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW, SUBSEQUENT APPEALS: If you do not agree with a decision made by the Employment Office as to your non-qualification or non-selection for a position, you may complete a Request for Administrative Review form (available on the HHSC website) or you may submit a written request within twenty (20) days from the date of your sent notice to the Regional Chief Executive Officer/Designee. Your letter requesting the Administrative Review must include 1. The job title(s) and recruitment number(s), 2. the specific reason(s) you are requesting the review noting if there is a statute or rule violation, and 3. any additional information you want to submit to substantiate your request. If you do not submit your request within the twenty (20) days deadline, no Administrative Review will be conducted. Since the Administrative Review is a prerequisite to subsequent steps, failure to utilize this process will make you ineligible for subsequent appeals. The administrative review, formal complaint and/or appeals hearing will not necessarily postpone the recruitment process and/or rescind a selection.
