The position is eligible to receive merit based pay increases every year (merit increase up to 3.9% increase). Employees also receive a Time In Service Bonus every three years of employment on their anniversary date equal to 5% of their annual salary.

Summary of the Position: The Desktop Support Technician is responsible for general and technical tasks in the installation, maintenance and configuration of City-owned information technology devices. This position is responsible for installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, upgrading, and disposal of computer systems hardware, software and other City owned devices according to City policy and procedures. Acts as main point of contact for Help Desk support tickets.

General Overview of Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for performing a wide variety of general and technical tasks to include installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, upgrading and disposing of computer systems hardware, software and other computer peripherals.
  • Responsible for maintaining the Department’s HelpDesk ticking system including tracking tickets, phone calls, and ensuring there is updated accurate real time progress for all work performed.
  • Installs, configures, tests and operates a desktop and other peripheral equipment; ensures proper installation of cables, desktop operating systems, and appropriate software.
  • Conducts preventive maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Provides assistance to the Information Technology Manager with identifying, researching and resolving high-level technical problems.
  • Assists in the preparation of equipment replacement and software upgrades or installations.
  • Assists City departments and staff in the use of City audio/visual equipment.
  • Assists in developing, presenting and maintaining professional Information Technology training for City staff including conducting training for City staff on computer and audio/visual hardware and software.
  • Responsible for attending and recording City Governing Body meeting including but not limited to: Council Meetings, Board of Zoning Appeals and Planning Commission. Maintains the Citywide Information Technology Zoom platform for streaming of City Governing Body meetings.
  • Assists the Information Technology Service and Operations Department in carrying out various programs and processes which may include mass deployments and other projects as directed.

Minimum Requirements: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent with five (5) years of experience in desktop support environment. OR An Associate’s Degree in computer technology, computer science or related field with three (3) years of experience in desktop support environment; help desk support, desktop imaging, mobile devices and desktop virtualization preferred. Must have experience working in Microsoft Windows operating systems. Experience in Microsoft Active Directory and/or Microsoft Azure, preferred. Experience working with audio/video systems, preferred. Experience in municipality information technology, preferred. Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record per the City’s drivers Use of Vehicles for City Business policy throughout employment with the City.
