What You'll Do
As a Designer in Emerging Technology Group (ETG), you will be responsible for design and development of advance motor control targeted for electrification in professional power tools and Outdoor Equipment. We are co-located with our TOOLS and OUTDOOR teams at our engineering headquarters in Towson, Maryland. We are a small, hands-on, diverse team of dedicated engineers responsible for advancing electrification through our core business. We work closely with our marketing, engineering and business leader to identify new needs, to designing and prototyping tools to ensure we meet our customers high expectations, to creating robust tests to guarantee the tools we make stand up to the toughest environments, our engineers own every aspect of the process along the way.
You'll get to:
  • Designs subassemblies & complex parts using CATIA V5
  • Design parts and subassemblies for various manufacturing processes including injection molding, die casting, stamping, and machining
  • Pull the information from existing BoM structure and documentation in PLM/Windchill system
  • Use manufacturing knowledge & experience to guide product & tooling design
  • Specifies 3D geometry, 2D technical drawings, and executes tolerance stack-ups
  • Ability to construct prototypes, perform teardowns of competitive designs, and perform basic experiments to improve design output.
  • Submit request to Model shop and coordinate delivery and quality of the various prototype components.

Who You Are
You're a strong problem solver who loves digging into the details to fully understand what is going on. A strong team player looking for technical challenges and willing to learn. You like getting your hands dirty and want to be the one disassembling a problem to find out what is broken and how to fix it. You want to work on a project where you can see the fruits of your labor come to life and enjoy getting to see the finished product on the shelves of major retailers around the globe.
You also have:
  • 5+ years of experience designing subassemblies & complex parts using CATIA V5 or similar 3D CAD system.
  • Experience in the use of 2D & 3D CATIA V5 or similar CAD system
  • Extensive knowledge of ASME Y14.5 2D drawing standard; knowledge of GD&T preferred
  • Experience performing dimensional tolerance stack ups preferred
  • Hands-on ability to build prototypes is a must
  • Experience with manufacturing assembly processes preferred
  • Experience with various component manufacturing processes including injection molding, die casting, & metal stamping preferred
  • Good organization and communication skills. Ability to work with more than one engineer and handle multiple assignments concurrently.
