NG Space Systems – Propulsion Systems is currently seeking an Associate Propulsion Engineer/Designer in our Digital Design & Integration team supporting several locations within the Flight Systems with home location at the Promontory (Brigham), UT facility.
Role description & Responsibilities:
This position is involved in the world of Model Based Design (MBD) and individuals will be a member of the Integrated Product team and support efforts to produce new rocket motor designs. Our MBD designers support design by integrating all the 3D CAD design with PMI and ensuring that the interactions between the various components meet all requirements and work as intended. The 3D CAD model is the heart of the design and as the design matures and our MBD designers do GD&T work using PMI annotations. This role often allows the MBD designer to see the big picture and participate intimately in the design.
The MBD designer will work under general instruction in Digital Design and Integration supporting modeling, drafting, and engineering design support. Individual will have overall responsibility for modeling and drafting of mechanical components, electrical harnesses, assemblies, and design support in the aerospace industry.
Specific roles and responsibilities for this position include the following:
Support rocket motor design and development with advanced modeling methods using Siemens Teamcenter for PLM and NX for CAD.
Review engineering products in accordance with ASME Y 14.41 standards for PMI annotation on CAD for mechanical design, electrical harnesses and booster integration.
Review engineering products in accordance with ASME Y14.100 and Y14.5 for 2D and 3D drawing definition and model-based GD&T practices.
Within Teamcenter Unified Architecture maintain and work on configuration controlled CAD models with a solid understanding of assembly level access and program controlled interactions.
Verify Checkmate process and tool to verify integration compatibility between parts, assembly-level models, and outside consumers such as tooling or analysis.
Support design for manufacturability and inspect ability using model-based methods of optimization.
Provide both featured and de-featured models for 3D prints, design reviews, analysis needs, process simulation overviews, and integration requests. Designs are often used in a highly immersive visualization environment like Virtual or Augmented Reality.
Provide coaching, training, and technical assistance to internal and external customers in the interrogation and use of 3D model-based design elements
Create and deliver integrated design package with lightweight models, EBOM, notes and drawing views as required.
Responsive to – technical, cost, and schedule targets
Job Duties:
Daily work with members of the Digital Design and Integration and Design Engineers to check and give feedback on 2D and 3D Models/Drawing. Work in Siemens NX and Teamcenter to verify all documentation is complete and accurate. Support design reviews and other team needs as required.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field and 2 years of experience
6 years of relevant College/Technical Certificate and work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Good written and oral communication skills
Must be able to obtain a Security Clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Siemens NX with PMI in Teamcenter Unified Architecture
Experience in Design, Drafting, Manufacturing. or Quality
Experience working in a team setting
Good time management and organizational skills
BS degree in mechanical engineering
This position reports to Corinne, UT, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Magna, UT, UT, USA.
