Retirement Plan Specialist - 401k

The opportunity
The benefits team is responsible for administering the firm’s defined contribution plan, defined benefit plan, disability insurance, and health, dental, legal, long-term care and life insurance plans in compliance with state and federal regulations. You’ll assist in day-to-day 401(k) plan administration.
Your key responsibilities
As a Benefits, Senior Associate, you’ll be responsible for researching and responding to questions from partners and employees regarding their 401(k) account, including eligibility, vesting and payroll deductions. You will also process biweekly and monthly funding, assist with resolving vendor file errors and coordinating 401(k) deduction set-up with payroll. You will receive general supervision and provide updates to supervisor.
Skills and attributes for success
- Ability to support the annual 401(k) plan audit process
- Successfully manage 401(k) participant inquiries. Research and resolve weekly 401(k) errors
- Adept at submitting approved qualified Domestic Relations Orders and death benefit transfers to the recordkeeper
- Able to provide vendors with the appropriate documentation for 401(k) plan inquiries
- Maintain vendor contact to investigate discrepancies and provide information in non-routine situations
- Assist with the review of plan documents and summary plan descriptions
- Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of the administration, design, database technical specifications, and financial aspects of 401(k) plan
- Assist with compliance of 401(k) plan administration with federal law, including IRS and Department of Labor regulations
- Ability to respond to administrative and policy questions as needed
To qualify for the role, you must have
- Demonstrated understanding and application principles and practices of a specific professional discipline
- Broad decision-making ability for the activities and projects within scope of responsibilities
- Ability to communicate effectively and develop positive working relationships with both internal teams and external vendors
- Adept at exercising strong judgement, set priorities, organize, implement and administer effectively in all areas of accountability
- Excellent computer skills, especially spreadsheets, databases, word processing and vendor software systems
- Demonstrated maturity in dealing with different level of employees in a fast-paced environment and the ability to maintain confidentiality of all employee details
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
- Approximately 2-4 years related experience
Ideally, you'll also have
- Knowledge of and ability to use HRIS systems and other various computer software packages
- Strong customer service skills and attention to detail
- Knowledge and understanding of applicable federal, state and local laws pertaining to benefits administration
- Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) certification
