The DAY PORTER is responsible for keeping the assigned area clean. They must be able to perform basic cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, restroom sanitation and more. Responsibilities

  • Vacuums, sweeps, mops, scrubs, strips, waxes, and/or shampoos carpet, or floor surfaces; performs spot cleaning as needed.
  • Cleans, dusts and polishes furniture, artwork, fixtures, surfaces, walls, wood paneling, window sills, trim, doors, cabinets, vents, display cases, office equipment, audio/visual equipment, and telephones.
  • Cleans, deodorizes and disinfects bathrooms; cleans mirrors; replenishes soap products and paper products.
  • Cleans and disinfects water fountains, telephones, and other public facilities.
  • Wash/cleans glass doors, windows, and blinds.
  • Cleans break room equipment, such as coffeepots, coffee machines, microwave, refrigerator, and dishware; cleans vending machines; replenishes soap products and paper products.
  • Empties and cleans trash containers; replaces trash liners in containers; picks up and disposes of trash from floor/ground areas; carries/transports trash to dumpster or other designated trash receptacle.
  • Performs manual tasks as needed, which may include measuring/mixing cleaning chemicals, replacing vacuum bags, or loading/unloading materials.
  • Operates/utilizes various equipment, tools, and supplies, which may include a vacuum cleaner, carpet cleaner, buffing machine, carpet extractor, mop, broom, and cleaning supplies.
  • Performs basic maintenance tasks necessary to keep cleaning equipment and tools in operable condition; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
  • Follows safety procedures and utilizes safety equipment; places safety cones/markers to alert students/teachers of work areas, wet floors, or other potential hazards.
  • Monitors inventory levels of equipment, cleaning materials, tools, and supplies; initiates requests for new or replacement materials; stocks or distributes supply items; replenishes materials on cleaning carts.
  • Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, logs, checklists, inspection reports, supply requisitions, time sheets, or other documents.
  • Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, timesheets, material safety data sheets, procedures, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 months previous experience and/or training involving custodial work; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must have a valid ID
