Job Summary


As the Data Engineer at Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) you will shape, build, maintain, and support the Amazon Web Services (AWS) data infrastructure for MDH. An example of the work we have been doing recently can be seen in this Video. You will leverage data technologies to support ever increasing data science related needs in the MNIT AWS MDH data environment and will be working in a fast paced ever evolving environment where your contributions are not only appreciated but encouraged. As a Data Engineer, you will ensure that data within the AWS data production environment operates efficiently, securely and effectively. This includes applying project management techniques to improve upon or resolve technical issues, investigating new data related technologies, makes recommendations for change and enhancement, and maximizes technologies' potential to meet ever evolving MDH needs.   • This position is temporary and includes full state fringe benefits; it is anticipated to last through July 2024 with the possibility of being extended.

**This position is currently eligible for full-time telework:

  • Telework for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a remote telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies.
  • Candidates residing outside of Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) require additional review prior to telework approval upon becoming a finalist.
  • Candidates located in Minnesota, or a bordering state, do not require additional review.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume.

This position requires a minimum of three (3) years of experience supporting Amazon Web Services (AWS) production systems.

Experience must include the following:

  • Experience with AWS production data science administration, development and maintenance
  • Experience with AWS data science services such as Amazon S3, AWS Lake Formation, Amazon S3 Glacier, AWS Glue, AWS Backup, AWS Data Exchange, RDS, Lambda, Athena and DMS
  • Experience with AWS formation templates, infrastructure as code
  • Experience with AWS security
  • Experience with programing using Python
  • A Master’s degree in Information Technology or a related field substitutes for three years of experience, OR related Bachelor’s degree substitutes for two years, OR related Associate’s substitutes for one year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience providing mentoring and support services
  • AWS data science technical decision making with limited resources and precedence
  • Sophisticated AWS data science troubleshooting ability, including the ability to create and test hypotheses based on relative likelihood, and a willingness and ability to creatively consider all possible causes for a problem and test appropriately
  • Experience with AWS data lake services
  • Communicating and training on data science technical issues to non-technical employees
  • Collaboration skills in working with technical and nontechnical employees in group efforts
  • Communicating industry standards, best practices, testing techniques, and the interpretation of assessment, and testing results
