About the Role

Data Engineers, on the Data Dynamics team, work with large, diverse and complex data sets to assemble and integrate them into a standardized platform using Extract, Load and Transform (ELT) tools and based on State-of-The-Art tools in the Microsoft Azure Data Platform including Azure Databricks and Power BI. The Data Engineer role is responsible for setting up and managing the ELT data pipeline and working with external utility clients to ensure that the data acquisition process meets their immediate and future data analytics requirements. The Data Engineer will report to the Senior Data Architect and will collaborate with the Data Scientists and Research Scientists on the Data Dynamics team to understand and optimize the data inputs to statistical and machine learning models. The Data Engineer will present findings to both the internal team and external clients using State-of-The-Practice and effective visualization tools (e.g. Power Bi).

The Data Dynamics team works in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. One that brings thought leadership and innovative ideas directly to utility clients and portfolio managers to create and deliver on relevant analytic solutions. Utility clients may use these solutions for network asset management, customer analytics, demand forecasting or to optimize predictive maintenance. The Data Dynamics team consists of highly skilled analysts and researchers with expertise in data architecture, machine learning, artificial intelligence, mathematics, software engineering, and computer science. With the Vision towards ‘Data to Insight, Insight to Action’, Data Dynamics works collaboratively within the Strategic Innovations business unit and across the whole of The Energy Authority team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop data pipelines using SQL, python, and r
  • Work with clients to setup data acquisition processes
  • Test, Monitor, and Address issues with data pipeline processes
  • Work with Data Scientists and Data Architects to build data structures to support Machine Learning models
  • Collaborate with Data Scientists to understand the data needs of Statistical and Machine Learning Models
  • Develop Visualizations to provide actionable insight to team members and clients

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with SQL development, developing ETL pipelines, and building Data Structures
  • Experience with data scripting languages such as R, Python, and Scala (other ETL pipeline tools)
  • Working knowledge of Power BI or equivalent data visualization tool
  • Working knowledge of Big Data Spark or Databricks development environments
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, Mathematics or related discipline or 2-4 years relevant experience

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Experience working on a team project and meet deliverable milestones independently with minimal oversight
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and test/implement them using an iterative approach
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Excellent communication skills demonstrated by experience in communicating with clients and internal staff to understand and document requirements, and present project results
