Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc. has a job opportunity for a full time Damage Control/Fire Safety Assessor in Norfolk, VA.

Summary: The Fire Safety Assessor serves as a technical and subject matter specialist applying professional general knowledge and concepts associated with damage control and fire safety assessment of U.S. Navy surface ships.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as Damage Control subject matter expert in support of Fire Safety Assessment Program (FSAP) for a U.S. Navy contract.
  • Conducts shipboard assessments, policy reviews, and training for shipboard Damage Control Organization (DCO) Teams.
  • Responsible for policy and technical issues for all aspects of Shipboard Firefighting both within and outside of industrial facilities and will report to the Damage Control Officer.
  • Plans, Executes, monitors short and long-term strategy and process improvement efforts to improve the firefighting capabilities of ships in an industrial environment and by extension to ships overall firefighting capabilities.
  • Responsible for planning all aspects of a Damage Control Fire Safety inspection aboard all surface combatant platforms, including monitoring development of the Schedule of Events (SOE), analyzing required inputs from ship to be inspected, and building the FSAP Damage Control inspection and plan.
  • Provides technical guidance in compliance with all Navy instructions and policies for Shipboard Damage Control and Firefighting Systems, specifically ships in maintenance availability.
  • Monitors the readiness and material condition of surface ships firefighting equipment and associated supporting equipment for all surface ships in industrial availabilities through materiel Casualty Reports (CASREPs), assessments, inspections and other naval message traffic to identify material problem trends and potential class-wide problem areas.
  • Maintains liaison with counterparts at Naval organizations to include Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), Naval Supervisory Activities (NSA), Regional Maintenance Centers (RMCs), support contractors, Fleet Commanders, and other Directorates and subordinate commands in matters pertaining to planned major industrial availabilities.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivelent
  • 8 years of Navy Damage Control/Firefighting Experience required.
  • Must have a working knowledge of NAVSEA Technical Publication, Industrial Ship Safety Manual for Fire Prevention and Response (S0570-AC-CCM-010/8010).
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office, Word, Notepad, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to conduct ship visits on a daily basis.
  • Must be able to communicate well with Senior Military Officers.
  • Must be able to travel overseas (ROTA, BAHRAIN) and obtain U.S. Passport
  • Must have an ACTIVE SECRET level security clearance.
  • Pursuant to the various government contractual requirements, all applicants must be U.S. Citizens.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ship’s Fire Marshall Qualification preferred

ADA Notations:

  • Must be able to work in an office environment. May sit for long periods of time.
  • Must also be able to work in a shipyard environment and on naval vessels.
  • Must be able to get up and down ladders and in tight spaces where required.
  • Will require PPE in certain environments (hard hat, steel toe boots, safety glasses, etc.)
