Minimum Qualifications
Education: Associate’s degree in Information Security, Computer Science, Network Communications, or closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education, certification and/or experience.

Certification: Operating systems (OS), networking, and/or security focused certifications or equivalent hands on experience.

Experience:
Experience in a production security, Cisco network, or general IT environment.

Knowledge of:
Industry security standards for network and information architecture.

Vulnerability assessment, forensics, and security audit/assessment best practices.

Common security regulations and compliance standards. Data, voice, video, and specialty protocols, networks, and systems.

Network Security operational management, monitoring, and alerting using tools such as SNMP, syslog, SIEM, and network monitoring systems.

Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills.

Ability to work independently as a contributing team member and routinely update director on results.

Ability to contribute to group projects and work collaboratively as a member of a strong technical team.

Ability to travel once or twice a year for education, professional development, or conferences.

Ability to perform light lifting as appropriate for equipment installations and maintenance.

Flexibility in work schedule; willingness to occasionally adjust work hours on Wednesdays between midnight and 8 A.M. for the standard maintenance window. No weekends except in emergencies; no on-call rotation.

This position is eligible for remote work but the selected candidate must live within a 1 hour commute of OU’s main campus as a periodic on-campus presence is required.

Desired Qualifications
Administrative Security Certifications such as Security+, GIAC Security essentials, CISSP, or similar certifications.

Technical Security Certifications such as Palo Alto PCNSA or Cisco CyberOps Associate \ CCNA Bachelor’s degree with security emphasis.

Working experience with Payment Card Industry Data (PCI) Security Standard, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), and other standards applicable to higher-education.

Working experience auditing against standards such as NIST 800-171 and the Higher Education Community Vendor Assessment Toolkit (HECVAT) and familiarity with Service Organization Control (SOC) reports.

Knowledge of Industry security standards for cloud hosting including, with emphasis on SaaS vetting.

Experience in the implementation, installation, maintenance and upgrades of security systems, such as firewalls, SIEM, and IDS, and VPNs.

Experience with command line interface and scripting such as in Linux (shell), Windows (powershell), Splunk(SPL), and security appliances such as Cisco (ios) and Palo Alto.

Experience in securing an enterprise level network, preferably in Higher Education.

University Technology Services, the central IT organization of Oakland University, is seeking a Cybersecurity Engineer for a security generalist position. We are looking for a skilled enthusiast interested in joining our security team, reporting to the Information Security Officer.

Your work will include providing detailed technical analyses of security systems and architecture enhancements, performing upgrades, responding to issues and events, and implementing new solutions. Responsibilities include managing firewalls, Intrusion Detection / Prevention systems (IDS/IPS), Security Information Event Management (SIEM), and the security aspects of Identity Management.
