Job Description
Under general direction of a lead worker or supervision by departmental administrator or Building Services Manager, performs duties to provide care, cleaning & maintenance of building, furniture & fixtures.
- Adheres to all OSHA, CDC and/or Ohio University required safety guidelines
- Sweeps, mops, strips, waxes, polishes and renews floor surfaces
- Cleans and shampoos rugs and carpets
- Washes walls; cleans, dusts and waxes furniture and fixtures following either Level 1 or Level 2 clean/sanitize/disinfect guidelines as directed***
- Cleans glass and mirrors
- Cleans and empties trash receptacles
- May remove and hang drapes
- Removes snow and ice from walkways and entrance areas
- Reports need for equipment repair
- Reports evidence of fire, illegal entry and theft of property
- Checks in supplies; stocks supply areas
- May assist in washing and sanitizing dishes, glassware, utensils, pots & pans
- Cleans and sanitizes bathroom fixtures & drinking fountains.
- Operates dish machine/pot washer to clean and sanitize dishes, glasses, pans, etc.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in sanitation and safety areas of dining , residential, academic and administrative units
- Ability to carry out instructions in written, oral, and pictorial form
- Ability to work independently or with others
- Demonstrate willingness to work with diverse populations
- Ability to read and write common vocabulary in sentence structure
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, calculate fractions, decimals and percentages
- Ability to apply principles to solve practical problems
- Ability to demonstrate dexterity and skill in use of craft-associated hand and/or power tools and equipment
- Ability to mix cleaning compounds and follow safety procedures
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to effectively use a 15 foot ladder
- May require valid driver’s license
- Completion of a test may be required
- May climb ladders
- May be exposed to extreme temperatures
- May be exposed to dirt, grease, odors, cramped conditions, extreme hot or cold temperatures, heights, and electrical hazards
- May be exposed to dangerous machinery
- During Level 2 working conditions will be required to wear designated PPE up to and including full body suit, appropriate mask, etc***
- Must meet Occupational Health Medical Standards for posted position/classification.
- An established pattern of good work habits and performance with good interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of custodial safety practices**,
- Skill in operation of cleaning equipment** (electric scrubbers, buffers & vacuum cleaners)
- Knowledge of all applicable OSHA and/or Ohio University safety guidelines and procedures**.
