What you will be doing
Job Duties:
Field Operations Work Lead
This position provides work lead oversight to four professional FTE. This position ensures that the services and products delivered by the staff are of superior quality, timely, and contribute to the CMM work plan elements or as directed by senior management. The position defines and implements methods, procedures, and processes to improve workflow and productivity. The position provides feedback and coaching to staff on work and projects, assists in training staff, and provides leadership on projects as necessary. This position develops plans for training, career growth, and professional development to enhance staff knowledge, skills, and abilities. The position tracks work schedules, approves leave and timesheets; and works in a team with the group supervisor to evaluate assigned employees’ performance and to develop annual performance plans and annual performance evaluations.
Air Monitoring Project / Experimental / Network Design, Quality Control
Provide oversight of the meteorological and air quality network, including infrastructure, gaseous standards, laboratory analytical equipment, and data systems, to determine what data needs to be collected and to ensure all data collected is of the highest quality for use in modeling and hypothesis testing of air quality problems. This includes driving to air quality monitoring locations to evaluate and troubleshoot analytical/experimental systems during and outside of normal business hours. Maintain and develop quality control procedures to include the maintenance and development of standard operating procedures. Applies the theory and scientific principles of air quality research in the performance of data analysis, hypothesis testing, and reporting of scientific findings.
Research and Implement New Air Monitoring Technologies
Evaluate air monitoring networks to determine the effectiveness and efficiency of analytical techniques, sampling systems, and quality control procedures. Research and interpret scientific literature, manufacturer’s manuals, federal monitoring guidance, and federal regulations in order to recommend changes to project design elements through the implementation of new and emerging monitoring technologies and/or procedures. Changes to project designs always consider previous impacts on under-represented communities. Select and delegate the implementation research methods, analytical techniques and new procedures to increase the effectiveness of the experimental design of the monitoring network. Attend national conferences, participate in regional and national work groups and attend training to advance Colorado’s air quality monitoring network.
Manage Air Quality Network Resources
Manage network resources to ensure the timely and successful implementation of special research projects and the uninterrupted continuation of the compliance monitoring network.
Other Duties as Assigned
Attends meetings, serves on task forces or teams, completes projects, and performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
To be considered for this position, you must meet one of the following options for consideration.
Eight (8) years of experience in air chemistry, analytical chemistry, or regulatory monitoring.
Option 2
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in biology, chemistry, or physics.
AND
Four (4) years of experience in air chemistry, analytical chemistry, or regulatory monitoring..
Option 3
An advanced (Master’s or Doctorate) degree from an accredited institution in chemistry, biology, or physics.
AND
Two (2) years of experience in air chemistry, analytical chemistry, or regulatory monitoring.
The preferred experience and abilities are highly desirable for this position and will be considered in selecting the successful candidate:
4+ years experience writing scientific air quality reports and the statistical evaluation of air quality data, air quality monitor system diagnostic data and quality control data for compliance with air quality project goals and objectives;-
4+ years experience operating, maintaining, calibrating, and repairing air quality monitoring equipment;

Ability to develop and write Standard Operating Procedures for equipment operations, equipment maintenance and quality control procedures; and schematics for instrument configurations;

Ability to use the scientific theory of operations in both measurement and test equipment, including computers, in the application of troubleshooting techniques in the repair of faulty equipment or sampling systems;

Ability to assist in designing, testing, constructing and implementing new technologies;
-
Ability to perform descriptive statistics;
-
Ability to review and interpret scientific literature, equipment manuals, federal monitoring guidance, and federal regulations to recommend network modifications;

Knowledge of federal air quality standards and monitoring requirements;
Knowledge and experience providing data systems oversight and providing leadership in promoting new data system technologies to meet future business needs;

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
