Counseling Works is a boutique private practice in Naperville, Frankfort, and Lemont, IL. We are looking for a couples therapist who is enthusiastic, easy to connect with and adaptable to join our group practice. The ideal couples therapist will have experience in treating dating, engaged, married, and non-traditional couples. Preference will be given to those with advanced certifications such as Gottman Levels, EFT, Imago Therapy, or AAMFT, as well as experience with attachment theory or trauma.


The therapist will be exposed to various modalities of treatment including individual and family counseling, in addition to couples and will be expected to conduct diagnostic assessments to formulate DSM 5 diagnoses and complete treatment plans to support therapeutic interventions. The candidate must have experience working with couples in 1:1 traditional sessions, and have utilized clinical interventions and diagnostic skills in their current or previous work experience. Candidates must hold a license, or provisional license (or in process of applying for provisional license) and must be working towards clinical licensure in the state of Illinois.


Typically our clinicians are at full time status in an average of 3-4 months depending on availability. The candidate must be: independent, driven, collaborative, organized, detail oriented, and able to enhance our positive-minded group of clinicians. The candidate will be employee status. Compensation is fee per client based, and paid out bi-monthly.

Requirements are:

  • Current State of Illinois license as a PhD, PsyD, LCSW, LMFT, LCPC, LSW, LPC, AMFT, MEd, or MA
  • Willing to work weekends and evenings
  • Caseloads will start small, with the opportunity to grow into full-time
  • Minimum 1 year experience counseling our practice’s demographic, including couples
  • Prior private practice experience is a plus but not required
  • The expectation is that you’d immediately be able to block out a minimum of 12-14 hours per week for at least two shifts at Counseling Works
  • Proficient computer skills–we use Google Docs & TherapyNotes
  • Organized, professional, conscientious, timely and responsible.

Responsibilities are:

  • Provide individual and couples psychotherapy
  • Complete electronic notes, current treatment plans and obtain client payments in a timely fashion
  • Formulate DSM 5 diagnoses
  • Schedule & re-schedule clients for psychotherapy sessions with you
  • With support, manage client’s emergencies if/as they arise
  • Consult with other providers, psychiatrists and family members when appropriate
  • Continue to learn and grow to remain competent in serving the practice’s demographic and your caseload’s unique challenges
  • General tidiness of the office you are using and the common areas
