Summary

The Cost Accounting Manager is responsible for assistance with the monthly SAP close process and consolidated financial reporting. This position is responsible for maintaining an effective cost accounting system to reduce cost and improve overall profitability, for driving the process of indirect cost allocation and to oversee the Manufacturing and Transportation centers of excellence. The Cost Accounting Manager provides oversight of our Shared Service team’s reconciliation of standard costs to actual costs, maintenance of perpetual inventory system, and build of annual budget plan. He/she will also assist in capital expenditure financial analysis for the plant facilities. The position is located at the company’s corporate headquarters in Philadelphia, PA or Elmsford, NY.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for certain functions of the monthly close process.
  • Review of prepared monthly journal entries.
  • Review of prepared (by shared service function) monthly account reconciliations and exposure reports.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP enough to research, determine, and document proper treatment of new codification.
  • Analyze financial results comparing against key performance indicators such as Plan, historical results, and other specified benchmarks with a special emphasis on material variance analysis (e.g. raw material yield)
  • Responsible for the Plant capital asset lifecycle (WBS element, approval workflow tool management, and proper settlement of projects to the Fixed Asset Sub Ledger).
  • Development and presentation of recommendations for continuous improvement of processes.
  • Ability to coach, develop, and manage a small accounting staff.
  • Help document standard operating procedures, as necessary.
  • Prepare ad-hoc financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.

Technical

The Cost Accounting Manager will be an accomplished accounting professional with proven financial and financial-systems skills, solid business acumen and leadership ability. Additionally, the candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting is required; MBA, CPA, and CMA certifications are viewed as a plus.
  • 8-15 years of ledger accounting, managerial accounting, or costing in a manufacturing business is required.
  • Experience with a manufacturing, retail, or consumer packaged goods company is a plus.
  • Must have a strong understanding of costing methods (Actual, Standard, etc.).
  • Ability to analyze financial information and prepare reports to management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word).

Qualifications
