Northrop Grumman Space Sector is seeking an experienced Cost Accountant. This position will be located in Dulles, VA.
Roles and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Preparing monthly and quarterly account reconciliations per Sector Policy.
- Conducting corrections needed to the general ledger on issues identified through the account reconciliations.
- Responding to internal/external inquiries, for Tax & Audit.
- Preparing annual Tax and Audit schedules.
- Preparing and reviewing trial balance data on a monthly basis.
- Developing good working relationship with business units to understand their financial practices.
- Identifying and assisting in implementing process improvements.
- Preparing and reviewing to ensure journal entries are made in accordance with GAAP and have supporting documentation.
- Communicating with business units on additions/changes to journal entries. (Recurring, reclassification, manual, allocations, accruals, statistical, automated, etc.).
- ERP implementations and special projects.
- Project planning and reporting.
- Special projects (as assigned).

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
This role may be filled at as a Principal Cost Accountant (Level 3) or Sr. Principal Cost Accountant (Level 4) based on the qualifications outlined below.
Basic Qualifications for Level 3:
- Bachelor’s degree and 6+ years of professional experience in business management, finance, accounting, or related fields –OR- a Master’s degree as outlined above and 4+ year of professional experience.
Basic Qualifications for Level 4:
- Bachelor’s degree and 9+ years of professional experience in business management, finance, accounting, or related fields –OR- a Master’s degree as outlined above and 7+ year of professional experience.
Basic Qualifications for Both Levels:
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite - specifically high-level Excel skills (including: the ability to insert pivot tables, Vlookup, and conditional formatting, etc.).
- Experience with Cost Accounting
- Self-Starter with problem solving skills.
- ERP experience
- Knowledge of software applications related to the General Ledger and supporting systems.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- US citizenship required.
Preferred Experience:
- Familiarity with industry standard accounting, and cost management software tools such as Costpoint, and/or Cognos.
- Accounting experience for an Aerospace and/or Defense Company
