Role description:

Working with the Corporate Communications Director, the Corporate Communications Manager is responsible for building the company’s brand and protecting its reputation in the North American market (U.S.). The role is responsible for developing relationships with the trade media and other targeted outlets; preparing senior leaders and other designated spokespeople to represent Arcadis in the media; supporting the rollout of marketing campaigns and thought leadership content; and working cross-functionally to help ensure consistent messaging across channels.

This role can be performed in North America – Preferred Locations; Houston, Dallas, Austin, Atlanta, and New York.

Role accountabilities:

  • Co-lead in developing the overall strategic direction of Arcadis’ North American external communications strategy.
  • Act as a central contact for journalist inquiries, liaising with colleagues to provide information and coordinating interviews to deliver an appropriate response. Serve as an ambassador for the Arcadis brand in North America.
  • Write and issue press releases, pitch stories, respond to inquiries, place spokespeople, write op-eds or by-lined articles, etc.
  • Help maintain media relations and crisis communications plans that align with Arcadis’ North American and global crisis and emergency management strategies.
  • Oversee day-to-day relationships with journalists at trade and mainstream media outlets, helping ensure Arcadis is the go-to resource for key themes and topics.
  • Proactively identify issues on which Arcadis can comment, coordinating responses with the firm’s leading experts and ensuring desired coverage is achieved.
  • Advise and coach designated spokespeople to ensure they’re prepared to deal with the media and effectively present Arcadis’ views. Provide strategic communications counsel to senior leadership in the event of crises, including writing or approving releases, statements, talking points, etc., and preparing and/or overseeing the implementation of specific reputation management plans.
  • Actively participate in global communities of practice.
  • Support global Corporate Communications and Investor Relations with stories for quarterly and annual reports, shareholder, and analyst meetings, etc. Support the development and promotion of thought leadership and brand-building campaigns, developing plans to promote campaigns with key audiences.
  • Manage external suppliers such as PR agencies, monitoring agencies, and subscription services. Forge strong working relationships with other MarComms community members, internal stakeholders, vendors, and consultants.
  • Write a full range of other content (project case studies, video storyboards, blogs, social media posts, etc.) for use across external channels.
  • Review, edit, proofread, and/or approve content written by others.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to systems, processes, and tools to enhance the performance of both the MarComms team and Arcadis.
  • Oversee content pipeline and allocation of workload across the team.
  • Find new, creative ways to position Arcadis in the market.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or related field.
  • 8+ years of communications experience. Continued professional and personal development in marketing, communications, or related fields such as change management.
  • Willing to travel within the U.S. and Canada, as needed.
  • Relevant public relations/communications experience in-house or at an agency.
  • Strong contacts across U.S. and Canadian national and trade media.
  • Development and implementation of communications plans.
  • Solid media relations and/or crisis communications experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience promoting and pitching thought leadership content.
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand, simplify and translate complex technical and scientific subject matter for the general public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Strong stakeholder, project, and time management skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Comfortable working in a matrixed organization.
