Coordinator of Technology and Infrastructure

Position Overview: The Coordinator of Technology & Infrastructure provides leadership in the area of technology infrastructure, instructional technology, data management, network services, and print/production services. The Coordinator serves to meet the resource and information technology needs of GPAEA and local school districts.

Contract Length: 241-day (full time) contract beginning on July 1 2023.

Salary: Determined by education and experience.

Location: GPAEA Office in Ottumwa. Must be willing to travel to agency meetings and support districts as directed by the Chief Administrator.

Position will serve All Districts in All Regions.

Region 1: Albia, Centerville, Chariton, Moravia, Seymour, Wayne.

Region 2: Eddyville Blakesburg Fremont, Keota, North Mahaska, Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa Christian, Pekin, Sigourney, Tri-County.

Region 3: Cardinal, Davis County, Moulton-Udell, Ottumwa, Ottumwa Christian and Seton Catholic.

Region 4: Fairfield, Maharishi, Mediapolis, Morning Sun, Mt. Pleasant, WACO, Wapello and Winfield-Mt. Union.

Region 5: Burlington, Burlington Notre-Dame, Danville, New London, and West Burlington.

Region 6: Central Lee, Fort Madison, Holy Trinity Catholic, Keokuk, Keokuk Catholic, and Van Buren County.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum master’s degree in education or related technology field
  • Successful experience as a school/AEA administrator or private sector leadership.
  • Meets Standards of Licensure for Iowa Evaluator Approval.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides program leadership for the Agency’s technology infrastructure, Erate, network services and data center.
  • Provides agency and district leadership in the area of current cybersecurity practices.
  • Provides leadership for print/production services, creative services, and media center.
  • Provides support for integration of technology into instructional Agency initiatives and services.
  • Completes required reports, records, and planning in a timely manner.
  • Remains current in educational research, emerging technology and best practices in integrating technology into instructional practices.
  • Administers technology and data management programs and services in compliance with federal and state rules, guidelines, regulations and mandates as well as within ISO standards for security, technology, and production services.
  • Works collaboratively with all Agency service areas, the Department of Education, and local school districts in designing and implementing technology support projects, programs, and services.
  • Provides Agency leadership for completing the Annual Progress Report, and oversees the accreditation process.
  • Serves on such committees as appropriate (within GPAEA and/or external agencies) as designated by GPAEA to promote the effective integration of technology.
  • Facilitates training and communicates troubleshooting services for Agency staff.
  • Represents GPAEA at state media directors and other committees as directed by the Chief Administrator.
  • Supervises and evaluates assigned staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Administrator.

  • Ability to facilitate diverse groups in identifying issues and forging consensus.
  • Ability to integrate varied programs and services into an effective, cohesive area-wide effort.
  • In-depth understanding of the education system and the role of AEA’s in the Iowa education model.
  • Broad understanding of the Iowa Professional Development Model, Comprehensive School Improvement Plan process, Every Student Succeeds Act and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
  • Sound knowledge of special education, curriculum/instruction/assessment and/or media/technology; business services; human resources and state/federal statutes.
  • Customer-oriented communication skills with sensitivity to staff and community.
  • Ability to develop long-range and short-range plans and lead creatively and collaboratively.
  • Progressive, visionary and innovative in responding to current laws, trends and issues in education.
  • Ability to provide effective leadership for organizational change.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, write reports and correspondence, and apply appropriate mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to use and integrate technology appropriately in daily work which includes, but is not limited to, efficient operation of telephone and voice mail systems and application of basic computer skills to effectively use email, internet and word processing.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel between schools/sites served and outside of the service area.
  • Normal, routine levels of bending, carrying, climbing, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking.

Working Conditions:

Work is primarily performed in an office and school setting. Occasionally exposed to dust, noise, odors, and other irritants. Stress associated with work pace and pressure. Work involves irregular hours and days. Exposed to hazards and inclement weather when traveling.
