Job Description Overview:
In this position, you will manage a team of eight (8) accountants that handle accounts payable, accounts receivables, bank reconciliations, fixed asset, lease, and bank debt accounting. This position directs the operations of all Month/Quarter/Year-end close
The primary ‘functional’ responsibility of the ‘Controller’ is to maintain a clear view of our accounting workflow. In collaboration with the CFO and VP FP&A, the Controller will plan and direct the accounting operations of our three operating companies and all related entities. The role has primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing, and controlling all accounting-related activities. The Controller will support the drive to financial performance through high-quality decision support, including overall P&L, sales, and margin management, as well as close control over costs.
The suitable candidate for this role is someone with a strong foundational knowledge of GAAP, accounting processes and procedures, verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrable management experience. The Controller will help with creating documented procedures, implementing internal controls, supporting external auditors, and supporting internal stakeholders.
Job responsibilities:
  • Work with CFO to document policies and procedures for monthly close following the best practices approach to achieve a 7-day close
  • Produce monthly close and related schedules binder following GAAP and industry best practices
  • Maintain a clear line of communication with the CFO
  • Oversees the operations of the Accounting Department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, debt, and bank reconciliations
  • Maintain tax and regulatory reporting calendar
  • Maintained fixed asset and depreciation ledger
  • Oversee monthly P.O. review
  • Validate monthly inventory counts and variance reporting
  • Supervise reconciliation of equipment rental invoices with operations fleet management system
  • Supervise reconciliation of parts and consumable costs to the fleet maintenance system
  • Reconcile General Ledger maintenance expense to maintenance department P.O. system
  • Oversees the production of consolidated and consolidating income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and other financial reports and schedules including footnotes.
  • Maintain strict adherence to closing the calendar
  • Mentor and manage the accounting team
  • Implement a system of effective and efficient internal controls over all accounting transactions to minimize corporate risk
  • Responsible for the execution year-end audit plan provided by an outside audit firm
  • Leads continuous improvement in processes and procedures to increase efficiency, streamline workflow and create effective controls throughout the company
  • Support the establishment of a contract cost accounting function
  • Oversees all regulatory reporting and filing in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government tax requirements.
  • Manage Accounts Receivable issue resolution
  • Manage Accounts Payable issue resolution
  • Maintain Cost Accounting System by establishing standard costs and updating them as appropriate.
  • Support implementation of an ERP-based GL system (e.g. SAP, Oracle, NetSuite)
  • Work with FP&A to report financial status against budget and forecasts,
  • Support variance analysis
  • Complete any required tax returns and financial reports timely (local and state regulatory compliance).
  • Prepare financial schedules for annual audits
  • Assist in developing and implementing various internal control processes throughout multiple sites.
  • Develop working relationships with cross-functional partners at all levels.
  • Present financial data to internal customers at various levels.
  • Demonstrate integrity, initiative, motivation, and teamwork.

Required Experience:
  • Minimum five years of experience in an accounting manager or controllers role within a transportation, logistics, or manufacturing company or division

Minimum Qualifications:
  • BA/BS Degree in accounting finance
  • 8+ years of relatable accounting experience with direct supervisory responsibilities
  • CPA or CMA
  • Public accounting experience
  • Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP, financial statement presentation, and accounting theory
  • Experience working with Oracle, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, or Netsuite
  • Experience with an ERP implementation
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong Standard Cost understanding, development, and background required
  • Strong Inventory and Internal Control process development, a plus
