The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Content Marketing & Social Media Director develops strategies that will maximize WWP target audience awareness through relevant messaging and media and leads the creation, distribution, and promotion of content designed to attract and engage audiences. The Director leads a team of content professionals creating paid and organic content strategies to highlight programs and services and leads all paid content partnerships, organic content development, public service advertising production, and social media. The Director manages the Content, Social, and Multimedia teams.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the development and execution of WWP’s annual content strategy through organic, paid, and social media channels to educate and raise awareness about WWP programs and services, build brand visibility, and enhance reputation.
  • Identify, manage, and execute opportunities for paid and gift-in-kind content partnerships that align with WWP’s overall marketing and communications strategy and messaging priorities.
  • Develop and manage WWPs public service announcement strategy including the production of mass media campaigns to raise public awareness and the subsequent media buys needed to place those ads.
  • Lead a team of in-house and freelance writers and editors, multi-media, and social media specialists.
  • Closely collaborate with Public Relations, Marketing, and Fundraising teams to design, lead, and implement content strategies.
  • Deliver high-quality content from concept to production (storytelling).
  • Champion principles of storytelling, content organization, and distribution.
  • Develop and maintain content calendar and content creation process for both the WWP newsroom and social media channels
  • Adhere to and enforce WWP’s editorial standards.
  • Optimize content for search engines, the WWP newsroom, and social media
  • Review competitor content and market trends to identify new opportunities for organic, paid, and PSA content.
  • Capture a variety of metrics to measure the effectiveness of PSA advertising, social media, and content, and revise the approach based on those results.
  • Leverage available data from various sources to inform content and message strategies.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor team members.
  • Stay informed on the latest industry and best practices for storytelling, content strategy, branding, and PSA advertising.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Strong expertise and working knowledge of organizational content strategies.
  • Proficient in creating strategies to leverage social media platforms, e.g., Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social media management, e.g., Social Studio, Hootsuite, Buffer, Sprout Social.
  • Demonstrated success and expertise in managing media buys and content partnerships.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of data analytics, performance metrics, and trends analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to create content in the organization’s voice. Demonstrated working knowledge of communication principles including the Associated Press (AP) style.

EXPERIENCE:
Requirements
  • Seven years of communications, public relations, or marketing experience.
  • Seven years of experience managing organizational communications and messaging, and managing responses to crises and time-sensitive issues.
  • Three years of staff management experience.
  • Three years of managing a stand-alone P&L budget.
Preferences
  • Ten years of communications experience.
  • Five years of staff management experience.
  • Five years of experience working with a nonprofit organization.
EDUCATION:
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, marketing, communication, journalism, or related field. Equivalent combination of education, experience, training, or certification may be considered in lieu of degree.
