Major Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for the overall management of all construction and construction support activities focused on development at Eastman’s Texas City site. Additionally, you will manage other small to medium scope construction or plant modification projects which focus on the areas of safety, environmental compliance, and plant/processing improvements. You’ll also be responsible for providing daily leadership to ensure work is done safely and in compliance with all quality, cost, and schedule requirements. You’ll support construction specification development, obtaining necessary permits, procuring construction services, initiating project change notices, and ensuring proper control of materials and equipment.

Must provide overall construction safety leadership through driving the Eastman Zero Incident Mindset


Leadership/Team
  • Align, facilitate, and engage the Construction Team to meet the Targeted Outcomes
  • Develop and maintain a professional working relationship with the Project Team, department personnel, clients, and vendors.
  • Develop a formal communication plan that meets Project Team and stakeholder needs
  • Escalate (potential) issues early with developed solution options and recommendations

Processes/Activities
  • Project scoping/design
o Develop construction strategy with the Project Manager/Team
o Provide inputs on construction specifications
o Conduct/lead constructability reviews
o Develop a field staffing plan proposal
o Develop construction schedule inputs including input on labor availability
o Assist with cost estimate development by providing detailed construction phase inputs
o Review/validate all project execution documentation
  • Project Procurement
o Review/validate field construction bid packages
o Evaluate contractors and services
o Coordinate pre-proposal walkthroughs and RFI’s
o Participate in construction proposal reviews.


Construction

  • Manage job site safety and environmental stewardship consistent with the Project HSES plan and site policies and procedures
  • Adhere to management of change requirements
  • Assist with establishing detailed construction cost and schedule controls to track progress and develop/communicate progress reports.
  • Develop, implement and manage the construction QA/QC plan (including an integrity plan for installed and stored equipment over the life of the project).
  • Identify and communicate potential change orders to the Project Manager
  • Ensure required local construction/building permits are in place
  • Implement proper control of consumables, permanent material, and equipment.
  • Verify proper time reporting.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management required.
  • 5+ years of construction management or similar experience.
  • Highly organized with demonstrated ability to multi-task and handle the multitude of issues that arise daily on construction projects
  • Ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with individuals at all levels of the company including clients and vendors
  • Experience in a chemical manufacturing environment desired.
  • Must have extensive background in construction systems, contracts, construction execution, planning, scheduling, and cost controls
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to reasonably predict, prevent and resolve site issues and work with minimal direction


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and be able to work in awkward or confining spaces.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision.
  • Must be physically capable of spending long hours standing and occasionally work in chemical-protected clothing and equipment.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders (including vertical) and work at elevated heights.
  • Must be able to work in chemical protective clothing and equipment in an outdoor environment.
  • Must be able to work in a potentially hazardous chemical environment.
  • Must be “fit for duty”
