The Center for Technology, Research and Innovation (CTRI) is at the forefront of moving Toro into a new generation of autonomous operations. We are looking for a candidate to help us on our path towards fully autonomous operations.


The CTRI team has an open position for a Computer Vision Engineer. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work in robotic perception and computer vision applications applied to autonomy and navigation, utilizing techniques such as object detection, recognition, classification, structure from motion(SfM), or visual simultaneous localization and mapping (vSLAM) and help lead the future navigation and safety architectures for Toro products. The Computer Vision engineer works closely with a team sensor fusion engineers, integration test engineers, and software developers to deliver autonomous vehicle solutions for our customers.

What Will You Do?

  • Conduct research and development in robotic perception and computer vision, and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to deploy real-time implementations.

  • Design, implement, test, and document software and algorithms for embedded platforms in C/C++ and other languages.

  • Collaborate closely with team members on developing robotic systems from prototypes to production-level products.

  • Have opportunities to continuously learn, attend conferences and tradeshows, and collaborate with our innovative and knowledgeable technical staff in computer vision, machine learning, and all areas related to autonomous robotics.

  • Be an integral part of a team dedicated to building the next generation of robots.

What Do You Need?

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering or similar technical field

  • Level II

    • Bachelor’s in Computer Science/Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering or similar technical field with a minimum of 2 – 4 years’ experience in robotic perception and computer vision

  • Level III

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering or similar technical field with a minimum of 4 - 7 years’ experience in robotic perception and computer vision

    • Master’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering or similar technical field with a minimum of 2 - 5 years’ experience in robotic perception and computer vision

    • Ph.D. in Computer Science/Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering or similar technical field with relevant experience in robotic perception and computer vision

  • Level IV

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering or similar technical field with a minimum of 7 + years’ experience in robotic perception and computer vision

    • Master’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering or similar technical field with a minimum of 5 + years’ experience in robotic perception and computer vision

    • Ph.D. with 2 years relevant experience Demonstrated experience and knowledge base in SfM, multi-view reconstruction, and object detection and recognition

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge base in SfM, multi-view reconstruction, and object detection and recognition Strong 3D computer vision/ multi-view geometry fundamentals

  • Programming experience with C++ , C#, python, and Matlab

  • Capabilities with computer vision libraries such as OpenCV, and machine learning libraries such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.

  • A self-motivator with the ability to work independently and communicate technical results.

  • Comfortable working in a cross-functional team of roboticists and software engineers.

  • Strong problem-solving debug skills for complex systems.

How to Stand Out

  • Experience with simulation environments, including Unity Game engine, Unreal Engine

  • Experience with CUDA, parallel computing, and/or multi-threading.

  • Experience using/interfacing with robotic sensors, such a stereo cameras or LIDARs.

  • Background in autonomous/self-driving systems, or similar real-time safety-critical systems.

  • Interest and/or experience in sensor fusion, navigation, and filtering.
