Position Description

Independently provide a broad range of support to HMS HR for compensation. Work with HR professionals on academic and staff compensation initiatives. This position will support new hire and equity reviews using HMS, University, and market data. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Academic Compensation with a dotted line to the Assistant Director of Staff Compensation.
  • Prepare compensation reports and analyses for regular meetings with departments regarding academic and staff compensation
  • Assist in the preparation of comprehensive salary analyses for staff and academics, including new and reclassified positions
  • Support equity recommendations through use of statistical tool and internal and external review
  • Participate in the annual salary increase program
  • Review bonuses and other additional pay requests
  • Manage the creation and modification of the other academic positions in PeopleSoft
  • Prepare academic salary increase letters
  • Participate in the maintenance of HR Compensation files
  • Generate HR Analytics reports utilizing reporting tools such as QlikView, Harvard Careers, and PeopleSoft, to provide data to support decision making
  • Support the compensation team’s strategic priorities by assisting in special projects including identifying issues and researching potential solutions
  • Participate in department projects in support of ongoing and ad-hoc services to schools and units
  • Develop drafts of training sessions for HR staff across HU in the area of compensation administration and related policies and practices

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, advanced Excel skills PeopleSoft experience preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of FLSA including a thorough understanding and experience in applying Massachusetts state and federal wage and hour regulations
  • Experience working in an academic setting is highly desirable
  • Collaborative working style and the ability to build strong relationships with people at all levels of the organization
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills as well as exceptional attention to detail
  • This position includes handling confidential information with the utmost discretion
  • Ability to organize/prioritize work, manage multiple tasks and projects

This position is based in Boston, but the work may be done primarily remote. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA*, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA).
