The Community Outreach Manager is responsible for building partnerships with local entities (2-hour driving radius of Montpelier) and coordinating programming that connects civic education with historical story-telling. In collaboration with regional nonprofits and community leaders, the Community Outreach Manager will organize and execute public events at various locations throughout central Virginia. In addition to implementing equitable programming that results in an increase in civic awareness and a deepened sense of communal history, this individual is responsible for managing evaluative processes to track and measure progress.

The Community Outreach Manager is responsible for engaging new audiences and connecting them with the rich resources Montpelier offers, including civic programming and our power of place. All associated outreach, coalition building, and programming should reflect the full diversity of the American experience.

The Community Outreach Manager will ensure accurate and timely internal communications between Montpelier's advancement, visitor services, and education departments in support of partnership building and to increase public awareness about James Madison, the US Constitution and the Enslaved Community.

Duties include:
Develop an outreach agenda and timeline, considering mission and objectives related to The Montpelier Foundation and the Robert H. Smith Center for the Constitution.

Identify new communities and potential partners.

Conduct historical research on central Virginia to understand modern community formation and make connections with entities in these areas.

Further develop and build existing institutional partnerships.

Develop a series of civic-focused community workshops (at least 12 between summer 2023 and fall 2024) that prompt members of the public to understand how their stories, histories, and cultures are shaped by the US Constitution and all of America's founders.

Development and execution of civic-focused programming in local communities in the central Virginia region that further and support Montpelier's vision and priorities.

Promote Montpelier's rich resources (including civic programming and power of place) by developing and maintaining relationships with community-led organizations, local leaders, civic-focused nonprofits and others.

Collaborate with the Robert H. Smith Center for the Constitution's Education Manager and with education staff to coordinate the community workshop themes with and other civic-programming.
