REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Community Library Manager, within the Libraries Division. Additional vacancies may be filled from this recruitment within the library system. This position may be assigned to any library location/section within the Libraries Division based on operational needs.

The purpose of this position is to manage, plan, supervise and coordinate the activities for one or more library locations. The functions of this position include but are not limited to: supervising staff, managing public services, operations, projects, programs, facilitating partnerships, coordinating and cultivating outreach efforts, supporting division-wide initiatives, managing collection development, circulation, youth and adult reference services and readers advisory.

This position is also responsible for serving as a liaison to the local community and Friends of the Library.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires a Master's degree from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association in Library Science, Library and Information Science, or closely related field.

Requires three (3) years of professional library experience including administrative aspects such as: management of facilities, documentation of incidents, preparation of statistical and narrative reports, and building community partnerships and outreach programs including two (2) years lead work/supervisory experience.

Master's degree or higher in Education or related field that is separate but relevant from
the Minimum Qualifications. (i.e. Public Administration, Social Work, Business Administration)
ALA Leadership Institute Certificate
Sunshine State Library Leadership Institute Certificate
Post Master Certificates in Librarianship
Certificate in Library Leadership and Management
3 years Project Management Experience
1 year Grant Writing Experience

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

General Description
Performs responsible professional work at the administrative level of the library system. Works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Duties and Responsibilities


The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Ensures that the library opens and closes as scheduled with sufficient staff and that building equipment is operational and library resources are available for customers; reports problems with building or equipment or staffing shortages as needed.

Provides customer service at public service desks, including reference service, readers' advisory, and computer assistance, referral to other agencies, library circulation and point of sale (POS) services.

Supervises library staff and works collaboratively to address library concerns, plans displays and programs, coordinates collection needs; trains and directs staff; evaluates subordinates and counsels when necessary; provides information to staff about library policies and changes; coordinates the section activities.

Represents the library and resolves customer disputes verbally and in writing; schedules and/or hosts library programs, creates promotional materials for programs and shares this information with local media and stakeholders.

Performs code of conduct enforcement for the library including the suspension of disruptive customers and working with the Broward Sheriff Office and/or local law enforcement agencies as needed to remove disruptive people. Completes incident reports.

Addresses customer concerns and complaints; resolves transaction discrepancies; works with the Friends of the Library and other members of the community to enhance library services and promote the library and its resources.

Plans and organizes adult programs for the public; schedules and maintains paperwork for all group meeting room requests; reads and responds to correspondence and requests for action or information from library administration or other library staff; collects and reports statistics.

Attends cluster library manager meetings and other County training and shares information from these meetings with staff; prepares library staff schedule; prepares and submits payroll and related documents; prepares performance evaluations.

Attends classes, webinars and other educational and professional development opportunities.

Performs related work as assigned.

Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
